'67 Mustang C-4 with console.
The attached (I hope) picture shows the stick grip that was recovered from a smoking hole which was all that remained of the fighter I departed from in a rather spectacular manner (long story). Anyway it has long been my desire to have the stick grip mounted and used as the shifter on my mustang but have not been able to figure how it can be done. The original shifter of course has the button you press to shift through and into PARK. I'm not sure how I could get that to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

With enough eyes, ideas, tools and desire...damned near anything can be done. Butt (TS&T) I can't get the pic.

Its been a while since I messed with aircraft stuff. There's electrical connections in the center of the threaded portion of the bottom of the handle, correct? You could wire one to operate a solenoid that moves a bar up and down on the shifter gate. One of those switches should be momentary. That's the one I'd use. I would take a little doing. I'd also rig up some kind of bypass in case you lost the battery, or the solenoid failed, so you'd at least be able to manually get it in and out of neutral, etc.

Get in touch with “Q”, James Bonds teckie, he had all kinds of neat gizmos, seat ejectors, rocket launchers, smoke and oil spewing nozzles etc.
On a serious note, line locks, emergency flasher, windshield wiper/ washer, and for Sals amusement, exhaust cut out.

That's pretty cool, I hope you find a way to make it work.

I couldn’t figure out how to view the pictures.

Sooooooooooooooo.....the water sprinkler is NOT gonna be part of the shift mechanism?!
That should make it EZ'er.
I REALLY like Rudi'z suggestion.........multiple uses right at your fanger tipz!

Yes, the water sprinkler snuck in there. Sorry. It seems that some got the photo and others didn't. Being technologically challenged I regret that I cannot help with that. I would like to find a mechanical solution for the shifter rather than use switches, etc. Maybe push down on the shifter to get out of PARK. Just a thought.
Hey Rudi, do you have an email for Q? If so maybe he can help me with how to mount the machine gun.

I'd love to hear your fighter story. I'm glad the two of you survived.

Solenoid is just what I was thinking, Tom. Now that I see the pic you might be able to make a section of fatter stick that the handle threads onto and the whole shee-bang would replace most of the existing lever. The fatter stick/lever could enclose the solenoid. Maybe a trunk or door lock solenoid. Or buy a mile of fine, shellacked copper wire and wind one that fits. Shouldn't be particularly hard to do.
Cool project, I love stuff like that. Have fun.
Here's what you need. 500 feet would keep the current down to .2 amp. Just need to figure out how to wind it to make it pull in the right direction. I hate Google but it's good for stuff like this.
And here's how:

Picture magically works now.
What we need are pictures of the inside of that contraption.

I think I can confidently say that no one would be bored by such stories.

The trigger switch could be converted into a mechanical push button for the reverse lockout.
Pilots want to know.

Do aircraft fighter stories start the same way as Navy sea stories? "Now this is no S**t". I think most of us want to hear.

Only if he was a Navy flyer, Bob. Air Force guys are much more polite and their stories all start with, "Once upon a time".

With all those buttons you should be at least be able to control the radio but a turbo boost button would be really cool. What ever you do with it the shift knob and story is way better than mine.

Well, I suppose I can attach a "somewhat brief" description of my accident if you don't think that Steve will banish me for life if I do.

Easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.
I’m sure details are welcomed instead of brevity!

OK, I have tried to attach a document describing my "incident". If this doesn't work I'll have to try something else. [/url]

This topic is not SORTA Mustang related... It is SERIOUSLY MUSTANG RELATED!!!
A friend in Dallas had one of those on his 65 convertible, but it was simpler, being a T5. I am sure it can be accomplished fairly easily. I suggest buying an extra automatic T-handle and seeing exactly what is in it so you can figure it out.
