new fluid recovery system for the new lift

I needed to replace the pan gasket on the C4 and save the juice as it is new synthetic, so I fabbed up a system from scrap steel and a new lowes bucket, with a aluminum sheet pan i had for the funnel. I set the pan in a rim and hammered it down till it looked like a funnel to set over the top of the bucket, then drilled 5 1/4" holes in the center. The rack that sets on the lift was from some scrap 3/4 x 1-1/2 tubing
We will also can use this to drain radiators, pan and diff oil, just use a different bucket for dirty fluids thst you arent saving.

Re: new fluid recovery system for the new lift

At your rate of speed Chris, you’ll have to build a garage for all of the tools you’ll make for the lift. 😂👍🏼

Great idea.

Me too. I've been complaining to BB1 about not having a lift because of low ceiling issues in my shop. The other day he simply said put it outside in the RV parking area. Hmm... that boy is pretty sharp.

Re: new fluid recovery system for the new lift

Well, my garage has 8' ceiling and is under my daughter's (although she is no longer home) bedroom, I recently told my wife that I was thinking of renovating her room.  My wife replied "so was I, what do you want to do?".  I responded that I want to take the floor out and put a lift in the garage. She relied "yeah, that's not what I was thinking".

There are 2  synthetic fluids that I know of. the first is
=14pxAMSOIL Super Shift Synthetic Racing Transmission Fluid, spec'd by Amsoil for the older trannys
the other is what my tranny shop uses on all trannys, dont know what it is but it does work well and he backs my build with it. Could be why my tranny doesnt over heat

Re: new fluid recovery system for the new lift

My 4 post lift is in a garage with 8 foot ceiling. I love it. Most of the cars I work on there are cars, not trucks. I take the trucks to my shop where I have a two post lift. The 4 post is situated in the garage so that I can have my Mustang on it and get another vehicle in behind with hood under lift enough to have two cars in that bay. With a car like the Mustang or even a Grand Cherokee it goes high enough so I can sit on my little roll around seat/toolbox and work easily. I also have a hydraulic lift table that I can set at just the right height to make a nice work table under there with me. My lift does have the casters and I have rolled it out in the driveway for nastier stuff.

Good to know DC. What make and model lift do you have? And what size garage door do you have?

Re: new fluid recovery system for the new lift

I have the head room and shop size for a lift ,but just don't have the loose cash at the moment, I do like the catch pan, put that idea away for later down the road.

Re: new fluid recovery system for the new lift

Both of my lifts are from Greg Smith Equipment. I bought the four post years ago on ebay auction for a really good price. My garage is 24 X 32 feet two story with my wood shop upstairs. I built the garage 45 years ago. It is well used. Many many many piles of parts have gone in there and some cars have come out. I ran out of room long ago in my home garage and bought a property across town with a pole barn and that is where the two post lift lives. 10 foot ceiling over there. My doors are 7 feet tall 9 feet wide.  I had to trim one of the cable adjusters off to get it to clear the 7 foot dimension. I made some panels to fill in between the treads and use the whole thing as a big table sometimes when I neeed to layout big projects. It is a real nice variable height table.
