Re: Sorta Mustang Related

Great story and I'm  very happy to hear it from a guy who LIVED through  it .  I witnessed an F-104, flame out almost  exactly a year  ago .   It was at an air show ...radio control air show  in Denver.  It flamed out just as it was going over the top of a loop.  He managed  to  get  it  leveled out but that exceedingly liberal guide rate bit him.  It is  a very detailed model with about  a  10 foot length.  Busted it up but the owner said he'd  have  it  back  in   a year  or so.

Thanks for the story ,  again ,  I'm  very glad to hear  I from the caterpillar 's mouth .

Kudos to the Irvin Parachute Company. It sounds like Leslie Irvin was one heck of a man.

Hopefully this photo shows up. I'm old and technologically challenged.
Thought I'd give an update on my Stick Grip/Shifter project. I think I'm almost done. As is always the case, these things are more complicated and take longer than planned. I did not want to mess with the original shifter because at some point I may want to put it back in the car. I had an extra shifter so that is what I used. First of all, the shifter had a bend in it which would not look right with the stick grip. Secondly, the button to press to move the shifter out of PARK is on the side so that would not look right. So, we cut the shifter and rotated the top 90 degrees so that the gun trigger could activate cable to move the shifter out of PARK etc. We also straightened the shifter so that the stick grip is vertical. Hope this makes sense. I get confused just trying to describe it.
Next, I need to pull out the console and put the new shifter in and hope it works. Wish me luck.

Re: Sorta Mustang Related

The floor shifter out of a Mercury Monarch is very similar to the bent shifter on a Mustang, except that it is straight. That's the one I have on my 68.

Mission accomplished! Got the stick grip installed today and all is well with the world. Needed a bit of adjusting to get the trigger to move the cable properly to shift out of PARK but finally got it right. Probably one of a kind.

Re: Sorta Mustang Related

Well, it wasn't overly difficult but one of my concerns was to avoid doing much cosmetic damage to the stick grip - it does have some sentimental value. Also getting the gun trigger to effectively operate the cable that allows shifting in and out of PARK/REVERSE took some trial and error. All in all it was fun and I love the way it looks.

Re: Sorta Mustang Related

I just got around to reading your account of your jet mishap. I live in the Chesapeake/Virginia Beach area and military aircraft are a way of life hear. I’m sure you’ve heard the story about the Navy pilot that experienced some kind of mechanical issue after taking off from Oceana. He was right over a densely populated suburb. He somehow stalled the air craft (stopped it in mid air) over a parking lot before he and his second ejected. Both survived and no casualties on the ground. You guys are amazing!

Good story. Actually I spent a couple of years on exchange with the USAF at Langley - just down the road from you. We loved the area.

Re: Sorta Mustang Related

Its totally doable, if I had the shifter I could probably figure it out, especially since I have a C4 too
