    Progress on the 67 Coupe !!!

    So for the past month and a half I’ve set myself to push to get my 67 coupe on the road again.  Me and a group of local buddies have pretty much stripped the car totally down. 
    Steve Gray was a HUGE help in getting my driver side shock tower where it needed to be to get the export brace in place.  And as usual MS was a great resource of knowledge as well. 
    We’re at the point of cleaning up the engine bay, putting axles back into the rear end, and getting ready to start putting parts BACK ON the car. 
    So I come here with a  question as I clean up the firewall.  There’s an opening on the driver’s side that’s oval shaped that looks like the sheet metal punch out is about to fall off.  So I want to get a rubber plug for it.  My question is what is/was that for?  What was it intended for?  MS says that on the 66 it was for a/c hoses.  My 67 is a late year build.  Any thoughts?  I’ll include a picture.

    That sure looks like the passenger side. I've only seen ac lines coming thru the oval holes.

    Definitely the drivers side. My early 67 (Nov 1966) has the same oval and knockout, although mine seems well attached. I had to look hard to see it with a flashlight as I had never noticed it before. 
    Your passenger side looks to be the factory A/C setup. I'm guessing here but it the car had a under dash AC unit installed the hoses would have gone through the oval on the drivers side. Just a guess though.
    If you have the plugs that cover the shock access in the trunk one of those might fit or tack weld the knockout and seal it.

    My early 67 has that same opening. It’s there and secure with nothing coming through.

    Tack it in place and call it a day.

    I know the 65-66 used the driver side oval for factory under dash a/c unit.
    There will be two small dimples in sheet metal lower left and upper right where the retainer plate screws go.
    It held a rubber plug with holes for a/c hoses.

    I don’t know about the 67-68.
    I would also seal it if not required for your application.
    Potential for water on backside of firewall pad.

    Could be carry over tooling from previous year.Bean counters prolly eliminated the knock out.
    My 68has only a couple of dimples in that area.

    My phone does the same thing.  All I ever see is the far left side of pics posted.   To see the entire pic, I have to select the pic long enough for it to change to the picture hosting format.

    Not shore butt...........whine-knot fill it with body filler while you're welding up holes and dent and lumps and bumps smoothing that fire wall and painting it body color?  (hide ALL your wiring WYAIT like all the "cool-guyz" did!)

    I think he is going for the “cut-up, welded-up, ground down, it works great but it ain’t beautiful” Theme on the engine compartment.  Functional and mechanically sound, worry about looks the next time around.  And nothing wrong with that.  The cars with the most patina always have the most lookers at the shows.
