How many of y'all.........

Drive your classic Mustangs and NOT hammer it at every stop?!  Just cruise thru the gears (about 3000RPM) like a sane person.
I tried it today................
couldn't do it!!!

No way, it just wants to go, like a race horse, so I stab it just enough to hopefully not get picked up.  They see a gray haired old guy and hopefully they will ignore me.

So you're telling me Sally, if I shift it at 3 grand I'm a same person? What am I if I shift at 2-2,500? Hmm?

Re: How many of y'all.........

I got that type of behaviour out of my system in my bike racing years.
My 331 has never been over 4500 rpm.

Re: How many of y'all.........

With no mufflers on the car I have to "take it easy" around most of town, then............................................

OBTW shift point is 6500 on my 331.

Oh yeah,  I feel if I don't break sometning now and then I am not trying hard enough!!

LOL, reminds me of my biking days; I felt that if I didn’t fall off a couple of times I wasn’t going fast enough!

No, I do not hammer it at every stop.  Usually run through the gears as you state.  Although there are occasions where the road just begs for it!  However, I can't really hammer it as the rear breaks loose and starts to go a little sideways in 2nd and 3rd so I go just slightly less aggressive getting to 6 grand.

Re: How many of y'all.........

I drive pretty sanely most of the time. Around town I generally shift around 3.5K. I get on it and go through the gears when getting on the interstate and merging. There is one right turn I routinely make that has a very short run-up lane onto the two lane road. I hammer this every time, 6K in first followed by 5-5.5K in second gets me to traffic speed. She makes pretty noises when I romp on her.

Re: How many of y'all.........

I toned down my 7,000 rpm shifting on my 427 strokerwhen it broke a roller off a lifter.  Of course, it actually broke while idling.
Now, with the smaller, torkier cam, it goes to 6,000 once in a while.  But usually 5,500 is enough to get it moving.

Can’t do it. It’s why my wife won’t ride in it.

Once in a blue moon.

There’s lots of blue moons during summer around here.
I try to be a responsible adult though.😁

Re: How many of y'all.........

Mine is just a stock 289/2bl w a C4  & 135k. I have never even barked the tires in the rain. If I need to do that I just take the C10 out and burn up some premium and re surface the streets.

Re: How many of y'all.........

Not from every light, but it sees a couple 5,000 RPM shifts and the occasional power shift almost every time it goes out.  If I get a clear back road I'll still hammer it through the twisty sections a bit.

I think if I reved my 289 that high I would have dents in the hood.lol

reving mine up above 4K isn't for me. it makes about as much sense as putting gaskets on a harly.

Re: How many of y'all.........

I am relatively sedate... Sometimes I like to hook it through the corners, sometimes I like to stretch it's legs on the freeway. If the wife is riding along with me, I tend to behave better
I yield to temptation though when there is some "doof doof dude" in his hotted up Prius trying to prove how fast his car is beside me...

I leave those idiots in a cloud of gray Diesel smoke A LOT.  With the new turbo I've got on it I can just tip into about 1/2 throttle and that Prius become a spec in my rearview in about nothing flat.  I need to get this thing to the track.  I'm wondering if I now have enough on the back end to get over my traction issues at the line and run it out the back door enough to break into the 12s...

I just have the 289, but with the exhaust upgrade, tune up and lighter advance springs in the distributor, the car takes off from the line pretty quickly. Cars like Subaru WRX and Honda Type R are the ones that would eat me alive though.

I've smoked a lot of guys with my WRX.  The Type Rs look good on paper, but they're FWD and have traction problems whereas the WRX with its AWD leaves the line like its shot out of a cannon, provided you know how to do it and don't grenade the trans.  I'm actually building an upgraded 5MT transaxle for my WRX now.  Once I hit about 300HP I started getting front wheel spin on a hard launch, so I'm adding an LSD to the front, as well as upgrading the the better synchro design and gear spacing of the Legacy GT gears.  Should be even more fun for canyon carving and drag racing when its done.

I really like the car a lot.  300HP doesn't sound like a ton, but the car weighs exactly 3,000lbs, the chassis is very stiff, and it really handles like its on rails.  I've driven a ton of sports cars, performance cars, etc. over the years but I don't think I've ever drive a car that's as confidence inspiring.  No weird, twitchy handling at the limit, and when in doubt just plant your right foot.  Once you learn how to drive it fast you realize how careful you really have to be with other cars.
