Let us know your thoughts on how your car should sound.

40 years ago, my answer would've been different .... but now they use db meters and you get a free tilt tray ride to move your car of the road ... well, not so free.

You still can ... it's just illegal now. That little drive we took in your Red351, would've have been strike 1 under our laws. 3 strikes and your car gets crushed.

None of the options in the survey were right for me.
"I like a deep growl only when stepping into it. Rest of the time I prefer it pretty quiet."
The turbo mufflers are very close to this. They are still just a touch too loud at highway speeds. You can carry on a conversation though the exhaust sound is there. I think the OD from the future T5 will take care of this. Currently, it has a C4.

I prefer the sound of the late 60's early 70's high performance fords. 43 years ago a policeman told me they just follow the noise. so, i've been wondering if that 70's model el dorado muffler will fit under my 64 falcon. any gusses on that one? that may be difficult to acheive with a small block and 9:1 compression.

I guess Mike answered the pole.
I started with the flow masters that came with the exhaust kit. I don't think they made 100 miles. They now belong to Oscar Blitz. Just way too loud for me.
The Borla ProXS were quieter, but still loud. The didn't drone, but made a sound that got really annoying after 7000 miles. Those will go up for sale soon.
I have moved on to the quiet Walker mufflers......they are HUGE compared to the Borla's, but they fit. The car has a nice burble and it's really quiet. I'm sad to say, almost too quiet!!! I think I will keep these a while.

my falcon had flow masters on it when I bought it, don't know what series, I DO KNOW, I hate them. from what I've read they very well may be 40's

Oh man do I hate the drone! One night I came home with my wife from somewhere and she made a comment about the noise (drone). Funny thing was that I was thinking the exact same thing...
In the end, I fitted Walker Quiet Flows (as recommended on here) and it was the best exhaust decision I ever made. The car rumbles on acceleration and also has a nice beefy idle. Driving on the freeway, it is so quiet and conversation can be enjoyed.

The OD gear in a T-5 makes a HUUUGE difference in highway cruising noise! IF.......you have tail pipes to the rear valance, exhaust sound will be so low......("How low is it Johnny?") So low you will ruin several starters because you will think the engine is OFF!
Don't believe me?! Just ask Rudi or Bullet Bob..they have taken a ride in it with OPEN headers! 5 th gear brings down the sound a LOT! (Now............they both wear hearing aids and are "deaf-as-a-post" without them!!...J/K)
We had it "singing" in 1st and 2nd gear..........dropped it into 5th(we were rolling pretty good in city limits) and carried on a somewhat normal conversation. This was with open long tube headers!
Sooodon't swap those turbo muffs just yet!

Back in the day when noise mattered, hardened type”L” copper straight pipes were for some reason way louder than steel ones. My neighbours really hated me and my Black Shadow back then.

Its now clear why OZ joined the US in Vietnam. For years the Domino Theory was treated as absurd. People considered it ridiculous that communism would spread from Vietnam through the South Pacific to Australia and eventually take root on the West Coast of the US. You look at the world now and reconsider how true it may actually have been.

I love all the answers posted, but back to the question. I am running stock manifolds with a crossover and 40s,full tail pipes all in 2-1/4" and my stock 289 sounds nice. But I do remember in the 70s I had some of the first released "Cyclone Purple Hornies" in 4" bolted up to my headers and they sounded sweet. You could also here me from a mile away. And my girlfriends would always say shut the car off and coast up to the house so my dad doesnt know I just got home. Then as she would go inside I would start the car and VAROOM I shook the house and drove off. Maybe that's why I had so many different girlfriends back then.

I have a Magnaflow which are loud. But when I went a OD transmission that help a lot with the noise level at hwy speed.

Wellllll........it looks like I need 'to-respect-my-elderz' (aka bunch of old men) who think classic Mustangs need to purrrrrr like their ......Corollas!!
So when I... (and DC -IF he ever comes to a Bash!)... so when we drive up we will shut off our Mustangs about a block away in order to not "disturb" anyone! J/K guyz!
OBTW....planning to go to a SEGA drag race next week!!! (REALLY cool 60's era gassers.....big HP...4 speed only...straight axle..heads up racing) Highly recommend catching one if you get a chance!!!
