Hey everyone I just got my power steering box back from being rebuilt by borgeson and got it reinstalled. In my 66 mustang. Does the pitman arm have a specific torque spec I need to torque it to? When putting it back on it took quite a bit of work a bit of work getting it on. And the lock washer is flat.

I have a 68 Borgeson box with 1 1/8" shaft in our 66 and I just pulled until I was dragging the car sideways...figured that was good enough.

Awesome lol that’s what I was thinking to.
Does anyone know which side is return and supply line?

My 68 Ford shop manual says Pitman arm to sector shaft torque is 150-225 ft lbs. I believe that the sector shaft is 1 1/8".

The pressure side is on the aftmost fitting on the driver's side on my Borgeson box.

This is for a 71-73 with a Saginaw box. If I had to guess I would assume it is similar

A 67 had both 1" and 1 1/8" sector shafts. The 67 Shop manual calls for 150-225 for the 1 1/8" shaft, and 85-110 for the 1" shaft.

Important to remember the output end of Pittman arm should be blocked solid when being torqued down so that none of the torque is transferred to the internal parts of the steering box or the steering linkage.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
