How bout a quick "off topic" question.......

Friend of a friend............Has a 63 Chevy Impala SS   283-4 barrel-dual exhaust A/T numbers matching white with Red interior.
83,000 ORIGINAL miles! His Mom bought it new in 63 (still has the original window sticker etc.)
Super clean...not rust....no dents.  How much should he ask for it??

Lots!!
At one time I really had a want for a 63 SS Impala. I finally found a nice one, but it had title problems, and you can't export a car without a title.
I ended up with the 67 instead.

Honestly, that's a Barret Jackson or Mecum car.  I would gladly pay the commission on that because it will bring the most at a high end auction.

Re: How bout a quick "off topic" question.......

I sometimes look at the "sold items" feature in eBay to get a rough idea (https://www.ebay.com/b/Cars-Trucks/6001?Make=bowtie&Model=Impala&Model%2520Year=1963&Transmission=Automatic&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1).

Another good reference is https://classiccars.com/listings/find/1963/bowtie/impala-ss.

I suspect that the 283 will make it a little less desireable but if it's mostly or all original that should add to the price - it's a "survivor".

Re: How bout a quick "off topic" question.......

Its not a base model I6, but it is a base V8.  Certainly the 327, or the 409 (especially the 425HP one) would command a larger premium, but it is still a survivor.  Honestly, not my thing, I could care less about that stuff.  IMO it leads people to WAY overpay for what's in reality a lackluster car in terms of performance.  BUT, I'm not everyone.  There are plenty of guys who that IS their thing.

Like anything else in this hobby, its worth what someone is willing to pay for it.  You find that guy who's parents had one when he learned to drive and he'll maybe pay whatever you want to ask for it.  It goes to sale when there's a bunch of guys in the audience who can't get that Beach Boys song out of their head and it maybe doesn't sell.

I think there's a market, but it needs to be seen by the largest number of potential buyers possible, which I think means a very well done eBay auction or one of the big auction houses.

This fella is a little "strange" (according to John) so he just wants to move it local.  I suggested he have it detailed and enter it in the up coming local halloween car show. He doesn't even want to go to that much effort!
Maybe it would sell in the low 30's butt-eye doubt anybody local will go that far. He will prolly be happy for 1/2 that amount.

HEY.....it's a durn old Shivel-lay!!!!

Tell him I'll give him $10k for it.  If he doesn't want to be smart about selling it doesn't mean I can't be.  If he bites post or PM me some pics.  I'm dead serious.

Re: How bout a quick "off topic" question.......

Selling a classic car is like getting rid of a girl friend. Two questions need to be answered. By the seller ie ex- boyfriend,”how fast do you want it/her gone?” By the buyer,ie. new boyfriend “how bad do you want it/her?”
