I am building a stockish 289 for my 65 with a C4. I want to go with FDA long tube headers and a custom grind cam for torq. i will run a Edl 500 CFM carb. I also will be dehumping the heads. Does anyone know if the =13.35pxStreet Warrior, Dual Plane is a better choice than the edelbrock 2121 dual plane Performer?
=13.35pxRemember hood clearance is a factor

I have an edelbrock Performer in my 351. The RPM and Air gap will not fit. In yours, the Performer will certainly fit and the RPM,too. Maybe even the Air Gap. I do not know anything about the Street Warrior.

EVERYBODY agrees.......the performer RPM is the best bang-for-the-buck intake.
Tell us ALL the details and "we" can help you pick out a cam and other stuff. I luv this stuff!!

I was told the RPM wont clear with a stock air cleaner as it is all most 1" taller? What i have read is the Weind is the same height as the performer and in a comparison was better with throttle response. I dont know and will have to wait tell I know more. performers alway do work.
As for the specs:
stock 289 bored over as needed, new C4 tran, new 500cfm eldie, new long tube headers, new 280 butt gears, 'new 25" tires.
The Cam: all I want is torq and if at all possible a little lumpy sound tossed in on the side.

In my 66 FB, I'm runnng a 5.0 roller block with an Eddy RPM intake and Eddy 1403 carb. For headgear, the carb is sporting a one inch round air cleaner an it "no touchy" the closed hood.

Same setup on my 289 in my '67, and plenty of hood clearance with a repro HiPo air cleaner.

I have a Chinese knock-off Performer RPM and the thin low profile air cleaner and it clears (barely)
Plain Performer makes same HP as stock FoMoCo intake (its just Alum)
The cam: Go easy on the duration and get a tight LSA 108 - 110LSA. Modest increase in lift. (Read how Isky grinds their cams...they been around 70 years) Delta Cams (right in your neighborhood) grinds a great cam.

I'm running a Performer intake with a 1" spacer under an Edelbrock 1406 carb with a low profile air cleaner on my 351W in my 68, and as Sally says, it just clears my hood.

"Ahhhhhhhhh Grasshopp-ahh when the gods of camshaftery speak....you must pay close attention!
When one's mind is allowed to wanda.... Grasshopp-ah.....black and white soon blends to gray.
It is the LSA number that one must be mindful of .....if snottiness is the goal...... a numbahh of lesser amounts will render the desire of the OP heart........
110* will bring slight joy to ones heart when embarking upon the great sea of idle-ness.
Hence forth a smaller number of 109-108* will greatly increase the tightness in ones pants when enjoying the state of idle-ness.
Such is a wonderful exception of the old chinese proverb... 'of more is better and bigger is just right.'... Alas...there can be a few prairie dog holes in the life of hot rods and street engines. One of which is needed vacuum for insignificant things like power brakes and C-4s.
It is true my young insect-of-the-grass.....duration doth also contribute to the un-easy rotation of snotty idle-ness butt.... the LSA numba is truly the emperor of the grind. It renders blazing acceleration in the lower bowels of RPM. Duration spews forth in a longer arc often call 'higher RPMs'.
Now Grasshopp-ahh you must cleanse yourself of your lack of meaning ...true meaning. Perhaps 25 strokes of self flagellation with a wet reed will sharpen your mind and expand your camshaftery horizons! It will indeed grasshopp-ah hurt thou more than it will thee!"
Yep...with a tighter LSA 108-110* you can get a 'nice-lick' with out the sluggishness of a BIG cam. Power will be big time at lower RPMs butt will be done at a lower top end ex. maybe 5500/6000rpm.
Lift (not too much) is a power maker too because.....well it opens the valves more!! duh! TOO much lift will start stressing the upper valve train (ex. springs/rockers/retainers/)
Keep in mind if its tooooo snotty(IF there is such a thing!) an A/T car may have problems idling in drive at a traffic light. A smaller converter will fix that butt THEN.......you get more slippage and heat at lower RPM. Giant circle.......a balanced combination (or compromise!) is the key.
Talk to your cam grinder....butt...knowing the above info AND MORE will help you talk to him in an informed manner. They WANT you to be happy with your set-up, it makes them look good to other customers and (makes them $$$) Don't let some minimum wage phone talker sell you something he looks up on their catalogue. I read where MOST cams are ground using information from Chevy engines. LSA/Duration/Lift etc. Getting one ground 'just-for-your-combination' that YOU had some input in is pretty great!
