I can't say for the engineering numbers, but those typically are not helpful to anyone other than Ford anyway.
The part numbering system since '99 has worked as follows:
1st place is the year (1-9 for 2000-2009, A-M for 2010-2021)
2nd/3rd place is the product line (e.g. Z for Mustang)
4th place is the design responsibility code (e.g. C for Chassis Engineering)
Remaining places prior to any - is the root part number (I don't believe these have changed, so for example something like 17682 would be an outside rearview mirror)
After any - is the revision number (A for first revision, B for second, etc.)
Its definitely a more complex system than what the used to use.

What are you trying to figure out? Its an EV6 style injector that should flow 24 lbs/hr.

I did figure that out.
Was interested in the format.
Appears there is a 3rd format as well.
Just haven’t found the decoder for the new systems.
Who knows, this afternoon there might be a newer system.
Probably driven by Ford’s bean counters. LOL

There was overlap. The old and new systems overlapped for a period and there are part numbers for things in the '90s that could be given in either format. Inexplicably Ford chose to start those part numbers by using S-X in the first position for years from '95-'99, whereas we are used to seeing a part number that would have started with F5-F9 followed by a vehicle code (Mustang was always Z), etc.
The current system is planned out to at least 2024, but beyond that they will be out of prefixes, unless they change formats again.
I honestly don't know why the format change. The old system was only on "F" when they changed it. There were 20 decades left, which would have taken them 200 years past the '90s. The current format has considerably less longevity.

Brother-in-law effect....
Someone’s brother-in-law wrote the new system and it was put into service.
That’s my theory at least.😜
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
