Could you repost your write-up on swapping to a 24" radiator?
I can't seem to find it online anymore. The one link I found on another forum was broken. Got my 24" dewitts radiator w/ fans and shroud in the mail today. Eager to get started. Still holding back on the hoses. I was going to buy a universal flexible hoses but decided to get it all installed and then measure and try to find a quality fit.
Coincidentally, if anyone wants an aluminum stock sized radiator w/ fan I have one to sell.

Looks like that write up is the victim of the website upgrade
All the how to's are gone. Hopefully they'll be restored soon.

I'm installing a Dewitt's 24: radiator with dual fans and shroud. Mocked it up last night and it looks real nice. Plenty of clearance between the fans and the water pump pully wheel now.
Unfortunately, This only has a little more than 3/8" fins on the outside for screw mounting to the front radiator frame. That's enough for some long standoffs but I would have liked more clearance. I was considering using the original radiator mounts from a 68 mustang I ordered but 1) the fit on repo parts was crap 2) it raised the cap too high and I would have interference with the hood.
I mocked up the radiator and use somed play-do to see the clearance with the hood and the radiator cap (highest point) and only have about 3/16". Putting the radiator on those bottom brackets would have taken it too high. I don't want it resting on the bare metal of the frame though. I have a roll of rubber gasket material I'm going to but to rest the radiator on. Plan as of now is 4 standoff screwed to the front frame and some kind of offset bracket on either side I'll have to fabricate later. So far so good.
Picked up the entire assembly including 2 fans, shroud, radiator, and 2 relays for $800 including tax and shipping on a black Friday sale.

I never thought it was "unimproved".

Do a search for gunjam in tech. He did his 24” install this past year.

I can send pics on how to install an original style 67-70 radiator and make it look factory. If you insist on non-original style stuff, just figure it out and let us know how it goes.
The factory clamp-in style beackets are the best way, but you must use a radiator with the factory style tanks. Those thin flanges on the side of a 24” radiator are to mount the shroud, not support the weight of that big radiator, and it gets pretty heavy when full of coolant.

I just believe it is hard to improve on this kind of fit and appearance and function in a 65-66 Mustang. But, I realize tastes do vary.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
