New TMI front seat upholstery.

I ordered new TMI upholstery for my 66 due to some minor damage and I suspect the driver's side seat pan has broken. I was surprised to see that I could order the TMI front seat set from NPD for less money than ordering directly from TMI.  Just an FYI.

Re: New TMI front seat upholstery.

that is pretty common. I got my TMI seat covers from Mustangs Unlimited for less that I could get them directly. Same thing on the A/C kit I bought in Aug. Cheaper from CJ than I could get it direct from Old Air Products. I asked them to match CJ Pony and they wouldn't/couldn't...

Good, fast or cheap. Pick any two...

Re: New TMI front seat upholstery.

They have wholesale agreements with large resellers, and can offer a lower price to them because the reseller takes over the ordering and most of the customer service portion of the transaction.  If they have to sell it to the individual its more work for them, so the price goes up.  Its definitely common.

Same thing with Vintage Air.  I tried to buy directly from them but Summit was about $125 less.  Vintage Air said to buy from Summit as they couldn't match the price due to shipping and wholesale agreements.

Bob:  I also recommend you step up for new foam.  It's not that expensive and makes a world of difference in the end result.

Re: New TMI front seat upholstery.

BobC, Sorry to hear about your order.... I have a full set of 66 black standard TMI seat covers on perfect frames with new foam buns, etc., and I would have been delighted to make you a better deal than TMI or any Mustang vendor would have done....

I installed new foam when I did the seats the last time.  It looks like it will be OK.  If the foam gets damaged or looks bad when I take the seat apart, I will head to NPD and pick up some new stuff.
TimC, I appreciate the offer but I have a blue interior.  I did get my new covers from NPD so I got them for the lower price.

Re: New TMI front seat upholstery.

Well here's something BB probably doesn't hear enough. "You were right"  I found when I tore the driver's side seat apart I do need to replace the foam.  Good thing NPD is close. I can't believe that the foam was in such poor shape since I had replaced it previously and the car isn't a daily driver. After all, only my dainty frame ever sits on it.  Oh well, it's only time and money.
