went and looked at a 67 mustang coupe yesterday. too cold to even think about looking under the car. 6 cly/ standard 3 speed. they are asking 6500. looks to be solid car but who knows without looking under it. will not start either and the wind shield trim is missing. battery was missing so couldn't see if it would turn over either. mi told my frien to offer half of the asking price. what do you think?

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you don't plan to keep the original drivetrain (V8 swap, etc.) it wouldn't bother me that it doesn't run, though I'd use that as a bargaining point.
Other than that on anything this old my first concern would be the condition of the body. I would go over that very, very carefully. Any rust you see expect that its the tip of the iceberg. I would thump all the frame rails with a screwdriver as they tend to rot out from the inside, so they can look fine, but be paper thin.
All the soft trim stuff in the interior is available repro, as is the exterior stuff (though quality can be a issue and I'd certainly rather have OEM to restore).
I don't know what the market is now. Years ago I'd have paid $500 for that car if it ran and drove and the body was decent. I know the price on fastbacks has gotten out of hand in the past decade, but I don't know how that translates to coupes. Production wise it was the most produced version of the car in '67 with the least desirable drivetrain. I think I'd start with $2,500 cash if the body is sound and see where it goes.

Where's the car from??? Up north?.....East coast?....south west?..... COULD make a big difference in the condition.....and the price.
The car is FIFTY-THREE years old!!!!!
IF its stock you better hope for south west or west coast and even then......?????

considering this same friend of mine bought a 67 FB zero rust any where, 289 with a c4, it had been setting for several years in a garage. we trailered it home the gas tank was empty . put a battery in it and gas and fired it up he stole that car at 8500. so I believe the 6500. for the coupe is way to high. I thinking more like 2000. take it or leave it. truth be told I don't know what he will do with it since he can no longer work on them

Given what I've seen on an original car that is 53 years old, that runs, is rust free, and normal wear on the interior, that's a normal asking price.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
