Hey installing a Speed Hut electronic speedo in my 67. It comes with its on wiring harness that runs to the speed sensor. I guess it has some shielding sleeve on it. I was hoping to use the wiring already included in my American Auto Wire harness.
I'm wondering if i use the wires in the AWW harness if i'll have any issue due to no specific shielding.
Anybody have any thoughts on this ?
If i can use the wires included in the harness it will be a cleaner install versus running separate set of wires up to instrument panel.

Does the AAW give you wires to the speedo, I assume you have a modern T-5 with a pulse output. I don't remember one in my AAW kit. Usually on a pulse signal it's best to use a twisted pair of wire and the shield is a plus, this keeps the noise down. Now if you want to use plane wire, route the wires from the transmission to under the dash and stay away from inside the engine bay. This way you wont pick up less noise form plug wires and such, this may work no promises.

I'm running a TKO 600 that came with the speed sensor. The AAW harness has wiring to run to the speed sensor but they are wrapped in the harness other wires and have no shielding. Back up the harness aways the wires for the electronic speedo split off and I was going to run them down the tunnel inside the car and have a hole with grommet for the speed sensor wires and the o2 sensor wires to come out near the trans.

Foxbody Mustangs ran O2, VSS, and Transmission wiring in same route bundled together in same harness.
May want to see if VSS wiring were twisted together, if so do the same with new routing.
When you refer to shielding...wire harness or foil covered wiring ?

the wires from Speed Hut have a sleeve over them that has shielded printed on them. it doesn't look like the wires in the AWW harness are twisted together.

The VSS is basically a little generator that put out a voltage pulse. Around 20 Hz at 60 MPH. I've have run communication circuits, at much higher frequency, short distances without issues. It will work with with the plane wire, but it could pick up noise and the speedometer may start bouncing. You would have to ask yourself how much work would it be if this happens, to replace with the supplied cable. If you run the supplied cable it's best to ground 1 end of the shield.

i was wanting to use all of the wiring that came with the AWW harness that way i have a clean install with a couple plugs that connect to my instrument panel. IfIi use the plug and lead Speed hut supplied with the speedo I would have to run that lead down to the trans sensor. I would then have another plug to connect and disconnect and another branch of wires to run to sensor. Not a big deal either way just was wanting to make as clean and neat as possible.

Bury the Speedhut harness in the AAW harnes wrapped with harness loom, cut off the AAW cluster connector and replace it with a bigger connector...say a 16 pin from Delphi...that will include what AAW had plus another couple of terminals for the VSS leads. Clean, works, dun!
