Auto Tranny Help needed DFW area

A local guy here called for help.  His 66 fastback 3 speed auto tranny is slipping.  Any recommended place that could fix it.  Its a job starting from on car not yet removed.  He's thinking  maybe fix it, a 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual.  Yes a lot of variables.   Any recommended shops ?

Re: Auto Tranny Help needed DFW area

If he's willing to ship whatever trans he chooses to have rebuilt Chris Garrett at A-1 Trans in Georgia is amazing. He regularly builds Ford transmissions that hold up to 1,000+ HP Lightnings and other Fords. https://www.a1transga.com/

But shipping is a little expensive and a pain.

Re: Auto Tranny Help needed DFW area

Honestly, a 3 speed auto isn't hard to rebuild.  People just think they have alien technology in them.  Personally I'd just grab the ATSG manual and do some research on a good rebuild kit and dive in.  Get a decent converter and a TransGo shift kit and it will be a lot better than stock.

Personally the happiest day of owning my Mustang may have been the day I started it up and drove it for the first time after the T5 swap.  My C4 is sitting in my shop in the growing pile of "if I turn it back to stock" parts.  Its a good place for it.

AOD or a T5 swap is considered.  NOT sure if he has a wrenching do it your self back ground.  Will find out.  I have my shop (ha, funny if you know me) filled full of projects.

Re: Auto Tranny Help needed DFW area

Don, if you will vouch for this guy I will offer my trans rebuild tool kit with a very good book for the price of shipping both ways if he want's to dive in hisownself.  Like TKO says, these auto  boxes really ain't rocket science and a C4 should be pretty easy.  They do require cleanliness and attention to detail but they are really fairly simple with a few tools.  So far my tools have done an AOD and two 4R70W's.  The book covers the C4, I think.  Will verify that if he's interested.

I will make him a screaming deal on this 4R70W taking up space in my garage.
