Keep as is or put in something?

If you bought it would you just display it or find something cool to put it in?

I think I'd have it gone through and put in a T-bolt replica or a shock tower deleted 65-66 coupe. Hmmmm tough choices.

Re: Keep as is or put in something?

I'm afraid I would have to turn it into a coffee table or something!!! The vale train and 6 foot timing chain are s just a wee bit too complicated for me feel comfortable driving it all over the country.

But it will be hell when it well!!!

Re: Keep as is or put in something?

Those engines were built to do one thing: win races.  Letting it sit would be heresy.  Thus I would have to put it in something or sell it to someone who would.  Might have to build a Torino with it and make a street version of the NASCAR that could have been.

My understanding is that the long timing chain needed constant adjusting to maintain the correct timing.  This would make taking it on a long trip a bit complicated.
Otherwise, a very cool engine to have in your ride!

Re: Keep as is or put in something?

I could not bring myself to put that in anything.  I would leave it as is.

Re: Keep as is or put in something?

I would leave it as-is, preserved as a museum piece. Sell it in ten years. I am certain it would return more than my retirement account.

Current bid is $50K and still has 6 days left, so I imagine you are spot on.

Re: Keep as is or put in something?

I talked to a guy at a local car show a couple of years ago that had one of those beasts in a 66 fastback. He said most of those engines ended up just sitting around in garages waiting to be used as boat motors, His 66 was quit impressive to me. His friend there had the same 427 in his XL500.

Timing chain "issue" solved !
It would look right at home in a 64/65 Falcon with a straight axle and...
          "maybe" some frame connectors!!
Prolly a nice tube chassis to go with the cammer and LENCO 5 speed. (Might as well go 'full-on' if we're day dream'in)..........

Re: Keep as is or put in something?

The things we aren't willing to do now.  Street engines used to have solid lifters that required periodic adjustment.  I don't see that stopping me.  Also, with a blower on it cam timing is considerably less important.  Just sayin'.

Price is insane.  Intended use is more insane.
