Back-in-the-day-drag race when......

you could actually "see" the top fuelers when they made a pass !

Some reason........I liked the races better back then (maybe gett'in older !?")

I think I would have enjoyed being around racing during that time.  Being around when the sport was getting bigger and bigger every day.  Had to be exciting times.

Yup Bob, Sal started going to the drags when they were coal fired.  Better'n me though, first digger I saw was wood fired.

Re: Back-in-the-day-drag race when......

Ahh, the early days, when one could bring a “run what you brung”, and maybe had a chance against more serious racers.  As time went on, the sport became more sophisticated and costly.  It became, if you want to go fast and win, all it takes is “cubic money”!

Amen, and for me it was the death of most forms of racing.  Don't get me wrong, what these guys are doing, making 11,000HP from 500 cubic inches and running ETs in the 3s at 330ish MPH is insanely impressive.  But the starting line antics, crazy setups, etc. made the earlier racing more entertaining.
