Used a tapered piston ring compressor for the first time yesterday

Holy, CRAP, Batman!!!  How did I ever build engines without one of those?  Just like everyone says...pistons go in by thumb pressure, not one hickup on all eight bores.  It must have saved a couple of hours and a lot of frustration sticking the pistons in the block.   No, Al...that does not equate to a discount.

Now I have to order one for standard 4.000" bore since I have a couple of those engines to put together.

What model/brand did you use?

Yep, I first used one in about '04 and will never use anything else.  Every now and then I catch a glimpse of them using the old coffee can compressor on one of those car shows and I think to myself "so how much power does the engine make with a couple of broken piston rings?" as they thump the pistons into the block.

Mine came from Summit. I think it is ARP.

Mine box says 'Summit" on it. Was real nice to use. Being the critic that I am it would have been better if the block side had a small ridge on it to fit into the cylinder between that and the piston gap. But as MS says I still saved 7 hours. Mine is for .030 over.
