Didn't check my MPG because.....I was gonna go anyway. Last time I checked it was low to mid 20's.
BUTT!........I paid $2.99 per gal in SC(of all places) for cheapest gas poll!!

Mine will just have to be measured in SMILES per gallon...
First tank, only about 12 gallons used, showed 14mpg. Subsequent tank showed 17. When we used a pump that refused to give me a receipt, I quit checking it. I figure I was lucky to get 15 on the average.
Bad part was I could only burn 10-12 gallons (22 gal tank) before my fuel pump started singing pretty loud. We did alot of stopping. My car got almost exactly 1/2 the mileage of Hornman in his 2013 V-6 Mustang.

21.8 mpg from ATL to Franklin
19.9 mpg from Franklin to ATL (drove with a heavier foot)
Probably could've picked up an mpg or two if I drove it a bit slower and easier, but where's the fun in that. This trip was a reminder to myself that I need to start driving the car more. To do so will require that I add some rear seatbelts for a few more of the kids.

My rented 2013 Mustang 6 cylinder with automatic averaged 29.9 mpg for the 2035 miles I drove over the seven days. It had a nifty trip computer that showed gallons of gasoline used. As MS said his milage was about half of mine. So, when I had used five gallons I knew it was time to find a gas station for MS. The timing was good though, both our old bodies needed to stretch and walk around by then.

Last year BB driving the 73 to Tomball got bout, 19-20. This year, after swapping out the Edelbrock for a Holley, , The mileage I got for the trip was a miserable 17.3.
I don't think it was all due to the sunk carb float, or the difference between my foot & BB's.

Tubo,
Don't discount the fact you were driving through the hills and had lots of ups and downs. Plus a hot foot through the Tail of the Dragon. (Don't deny...we have pictures!) Traveling with the top down also increases drag dramatically. Does the same on my 07 vert. When I drove mine to BILLYBASH I got 24 MPG, but driving exact same car to Illinois resulted in around 19. Maybe taking a tour of Branson and Arkansas mountain region had something to do with that. Not all trips are created equal!

See... that's what I can't figure out.
I have a very similar setup to yours... 289 with mild cam and tri-y headers and a T5, 2.79 rear gears, and I drove 72-75ish most of the time... and I only got a about 18.25mpg. Of course I only checked it at my first fillup so I don't know for sure what it was the rest of the time.
Of course I also have a pretty significant vibration coming from somewhere (my transmission I think) that I'm sure is acting as a parasitic drain and not helping the situation. At this point I'm seriously considering putting the 4 speed back in.

I think BILLY's running a 5.0 vs your 289.. that may be part of the difference.
