How often do ya check your shims? (65-66)

Had an alignment just before leaving for Bash...guess what.

On drive from Rockwall to Austin, noticed a different vibration just as we arrived to hotel.
It’s been light rain on and off.
Checked this afternoon and found all nuts could use a little more torque.
None were finger loose and as far as I can tell, no shims lost.

Might want to check before 2100 miles.
Be safe guys.

Just a reminder for summer driving.

Definitely check them before you drive home from the alignment shop.  Then, before every road trip.

A proper export brace is a necessity to keep shock towers in alignment, and thus, the alignment of the steering components.

I thought of BB’s problem JKB.

Will definitely get my braces back on MS.

Re: How often do ya check your shims? (65-66)

Glad you made it home safely. I almost had a lower control arm come loose on a big 18ft box truck. Lol needless to say I never took my work truck to that shop again for installing lower ball joints.  Now I try to always remember to double check my vehicle after having some services done. Like valve stem replacment. Took my truck into nearest tire shop had a leak. Happened to be Discount tire co they usually do a curtesy tire rotation. Well I wish they wouldnt have done that. I was driving that same day and 5 of the 6 lug studs on my truck 7/16" sheared right off the 6ths threads were completely gone! Now I try to always remember to double check work.  Sorry back to the shims what about making a special shim that maybe bolted to the tower or something. Would a cotter pin be an option or a hair pin as safety precaution on the control arms main mounting bolts?

Just need to verify everything is tight.

Didn’t have any problems when I tightened them over a year ago.

Not home yet.

Funny that this topic was brought up, because I was just wondering this week how often people get their wheel alignment checked...

Re: How often do ya check your shims? (65-66)

Since nearly loosing my nutz, I check 'em often.  Like every other fuel stop when on a trip.  I even made a special wrench for that purpose.
With the stock setup you will probably have a lot of shims on the front bolt to get the caster where you want it.  That makes a "wedged" clamping surface which DOES NOT clamp the shims evenly...so they can work loose.
