Mustang Noise Reduction

So, this worked for me, and thought I'd share.  The rear fold-down seat carpet on my 65 Mustang was faded and I decided to replace it.  After removing the fold-down seat, I found that I hadn't sound proofed or insulated the rear end housing 'hump' area (from side to side), as I had done for the rest of the interior.  So, I bought some "Noico" 80mil sound deadening and insulation (Foam, 315mil) and installed it.  Took it for a ride and could not believe the improvement in sound reduction.  I’m not sure this area ever had sound deadening from the factory on it. I mated it to the underlayment on top of the gas trunk.  The rear of the trunk area is not sound proofed or insulated.

Re: Mustang Noise Reduction

I also made the rear seat backing board out of mdf panel and stuck some foam insulation up inside the seat.
As you say, I certainly makes a big difference.

Re: Mustang Noise Reduction

Just did dynamat and 1/2" dynaliner for my whole interior (1/8" in just a couple places), and installed one of the sheet metal dividers for the rear that was also layered with dynamat and dynaliner. Would love to see pics of your setup

Re: Mustang Noise Reduction

Nice, especially for vertical surfaces like wheel wells.

This what I have in the 65 and mass backed carpet by ACC.

Re: Mustang Noise Reduction

I did the sound Blocking method    1) 10% area sound dampening (lowers vibration induced sound waves)     2) a sheet of mass loaded vinyl (blocks low freq waves,, (ie tire rumble) 3) sheet of high density foam (blocks high frq by turning waves into dissipated heat)    My start up hw 60 mph empty shell no interior was 82-83 dBn    Now 72 -74 dBn   same hw 60 mph .     I didn't cacoon entire interior area ie doors,  soooo now I can hear noise leaks..    always more to be done
