100 dollar deposit??

150,000 is the number of people Ford says laid down money for an all electric F150.
Any from that number here?

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

Nope, my 2017 F150 fossil fuel burner is good enough for me.

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

Yuuuuuup so is my 07. Just got back from a 2500 mile trip. Speed limit was 85 MPH some times. Rides as good as a Lincoln.

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

I was not one of the 150,000 folks who put down a deposit.

I could see getting one though.  Could be a handy wife mobile replacement for her 10+ year old ride.  It really seems like a well thought out EV.  Sure it won’t haul a pallet of cement, but it will haul a mattress, furniture, tools, toys, people.  Potentially trailer the Mustang short distances…

I’m not hip enough to drive a Rivian, nor fanboy enough to drive a cyber truck.

Rode around in a VW ID4 a couple weeks ago and was impressed- they are not glorified ez-go golf carts anymore.

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

I will not contribute to climate change by buying an EV.  Diesel all day, every day.  272k miles are still going strong.  Just about broken in I think.  No interest in spending that kind of money on a new truck that sucks compared to what I have now.

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

My 2016 has less than 30K on it, figure it will be around at least another 10 years. Who knows after that.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

I'm definitely not a fan of electric.
Has there been an unbiased comparison between the manufacture of these electric vehicles (with their batteries and charging and lifespan etc) compared with driving around in our old cars?
I heard someone say recently that the Government will eventually force petrol powered vehicles off the road as this new technology takes hold. Not sure how true that is...

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

I appreciate all forms of automotive technology, I would like to see real world comparison of true life cycle cost, and the carbon footprint over that life span. My brother and sister-in-law own a Tesla and 69 VW Bug, just this past week end she made the statement that they owned both the most eco friendly vehicle made and the least eco friendly. I was quick to say that we finally agreed on something automotive/political, but I believe she had it backwards. I know over the 50 years that the VW had done far less damage to the environment that the Tesla had already done.

I can appreciate all technology, but I don't want the government forcing it on me as the answer to saving the planet.

This will get me back to wanting to build a old school super economical in-line six or maybe even a 4 banger (lima) for a light weight Falcon or Mustang, just to see how reliable, simple, and economical it could be.

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

The biggest problem with the pollution from electric vehicles is during production, because all that carbon is being released in a very short period of time.  From the studies I've seen by about year 5 it catches the gasoline powered vehicle in terms of pollution and is better from there on, but I think ignoring the impact of the initial pollution is an attempt to shift things in the electric's favor.

Also, what's the damage long term from batteries and their disposal?  That is never discussed.  Those new batteries are also going to be very expensive, so are people really going to be okay with sinking $5-$10k into a 7-10 year old vehicle?

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

I watched a video that went over everything it takes to make the battery’s from mining a manufacturing them to long term disposal issues.  I’m no expert but to me it looks like we’re a long ways from the electric really making a difference.

Re: 100 dollar deposit??

Because electric id dead technology.  Honestly, electric cars are like a supercharged VCR.  You can do whatever you want to it, but its still technology that is pasts its prime.  Electric cars have been around since the 1890s, but they had all the same problems back them they do today.

The real future is hydrogen fuel cells, but Elon Musk has convinced the world that they are dangerous (they aren't) or don't work as well as electric (they do).  Hydrogen is made from water, of which we've got plenty.  The byproduct of its production is oxygen, which we breathe.  Its primary combustion emission is water.  Refueling takes about the same time as refueling a petrol powered vehicle.  Existing infrastructure works for refueling with minor changes.  Schwarzenegger started projects in CA for hydrogen, but I think they fell dead with the succeeding administrations.
