Do not EVER buy one of these

The small block Procomp Electronics timing cover sold by Summit.  Very poor quality. Mine cracked when I installed the seal in it.  And it is not drilled for the timing cover dowels. (Dowels align it positively if used on later blocks having that feature on the bottom two bolts.)

Enginetech units on ebay, under $60, are much better, and have the alignment dowel holes.  I have also used Dorman with good results.

With Summit having a good reputation, I'm sure they will want to hear your feedback.

1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

Re: Do not EVER buy one of these

Yeah, I have been happy with everything else from them. I even installed Summit brand roller lifters in my 331 I am building. I figured they can’t be any worse than the Ford Racing lifters.

Re: Do not EVER buy one of these

Pretty sure the Summit lifters are actually built by Trick Flow, or whoever builds Trick Flow's lifters.

Re: Do not EVER buy one of these

Don’t know what country the hydraulic roller lifters in my 331 came from but IIRC they came from the local Ford store.
A  very good friend was the sales mgr there and he would scour his Rolodex on microfiche and find all kinds of NOS parts for me.

Re: Do not EVER buy one of these

I had purchased an HEI ProComp distributor for my 351W back in 2006.  The housing was machined for a 289-302, ProComp supplied a sheet metal “shim” to fit the 351.  After driving about 2000 miles, the pin holding the drive gear to the distributor shaft had started to remove itself.  The gear started to wobble and that affected the timing, I found the problem when I pulled the distributor.  I ended up giving to a friend with a Chevy so he could use the “HEI” portion.  He took it apart and found the shaft had an extension piece welded on to increase the length for the 351W application.
I also had ProComp roller rockers, I was speaking to a Edelbrock Tech Rep about a cam who highly recommended not using these rockers.  He further stated he wasn’t pushing to buy Edelbrock products, just not to use ProComp products.

Re: Do not EVER buy one of these

Concerning Pro Comp............It seems (other than being priced low) I really haven't heard many positive comments!
They could be the 'poster-child' for.......cheapest-ain't-always-the.....cheapest!
Anybody heard of any rave reviews of Pro Comp?

Performance parts are like anything else: you get what you pay for.  The bitterness of low quality is remembered long after the sweetness of low price has faded from memory.

Agreed.  But, I have been buying brand new $50 timing covers off ebay for years. They were all very good quality. This brand is a new experience.

Re: Do not EVER buy one of these

I read a post some where a few months back and I wish I could recall the covers that were discussed.  I do recall that one was to be avoided at all cost. maybe that's the one.
