I remember seeing that video years ago, probably about the time when it was made. Terrible waste of an old car, even for a Cheby. At least it was a  4 door.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

My worst was Honda vs.tree at about 40MPH.  I wasn't driving.  Thank God for seat belts. Car was totaled, but we both walked away.  I had a bruise from my right shoulder to my left hip where I hit the belt, but that was it.

Having owned both, a 59 Impala four door hard top and a 66 coupe I would put my money on the Chevy.

Also full frame vs. unibody.

Re: Which is stronger........a 66-70 Mustang or a 59 Chevy Belair???

Yeah, quite sobering to say the least. A buddy showed me this some time ago.
I've been in a few wrecks with 60s and 70s vehicles and it's never pretty.
I don't know if there is a way to make them safer or not?

Re: Which is stronger........a 66-70 Mustang or a 59 Chevy Belair???

3 point belts are a big help.  Good brakes, etc.  In the end though I think older cars are safer because the people typically driving them are better drivers.  The danger is you can't control what some other idiot is going to do.

Re: Which is stronger........a 66-70 Mustang or a 59 Chevy Belair???

After watching this video and a few of the others grouped with it, clearly the one thing that could be done to these old Mustangs to make them safer is update to a collapsible steering column.

Maybe find a way to separate the gas tank completely from the trunk with sheet metal.

Not much else to say...

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Re: Which is stronger........a 66-70 Mustang or a 59 Chevy Belair???

I already have 3 point seatbelts (front and rear) in mine.
I think collapsible steering columns are an option as I'm sure I've heard people fitting these?

Re: Which is stronger........a 66-70 Mustang or a 59 Chevy Belair???

Although my daily driver has ADAS I don’t feel  more at risk when driving the 68, and in case of an accident  I know  I would fare better in the Lincoln.
