I'm not sure what everyone else did, but I've finally mounted a small fire extinguisher in the trunk of the car.
It's mounted to a thick custom made mdf panel extender. I may revisit this in the future and make that panel extender out of metal or wood.
Here is what it looks like.
When I looked at the mounting instructions for the extinguisher, they advised to not mount it in a location where temperatures can exceed 122degF. Hopefully this is not an issue?

Being that the fire extinguisher is in the trunk, I thought that having something close by would be good and I went with a mini extinguisher that I can store in the glove box.
I feel that I'm adequately covered now.

Mine is mounted in front of the drivers seat. It doesn't interfere with my feet or seat adjustment but I can grab it on the way out...God forbid it's ever needed.
Online!
Latched behind the passenger seat, next to the night stick.

Loose right behind the driver seat on the floor.
I moved it there from the trunk years ago when on the way home from a local cruise the PS return hose came loose, melted and spewed fluid all over the tri-y headers causing a fire.
I pulled into a parking lot smoke just pouring out from under the hood and rushed to get the trunk open and grab the extinguisher and douse the fire.
Another good reason for EPAS.

Thanks for sharing where you guys mount the fire extinguisher.
I don't want to have the extinguisher visible, so it will always be a trunk mount for me.
The mini extinguisher is there if I need something real fast.
With mounting the fire extinguisher inside the cabin, what risk is there of it coming loose and hitting the occupants in the event of a roll over?

Well, just my opinion, butt (TS&T) if I should happen to find myself in a roll over situation in a nearly 60 year old car with no air bags, add-on three point belts, questionable structural integrity, dubious door latches, and did they even imagine crumple zones?...that I have a lot more to worry about than the possibility of the fire extinguisher bonking me or the passenger. I think there's a way better chance of fire than a a roll over accident...I know that in 60 years of driving I've seen a lot more cars burning or the evidence on the road of a car fire than I've seen roll overs.

I mounted mine to a rear floor mat that just sits behind drivers seat, that way it does not roll around, then you can just pick it up a move it around where ever, seems to work for me.

That's a good idea, Jim. Nobody ever sits in the back seat of a coupe anyway.

Fire extinguisher, what the heck is that? I have never had one in a car, although I carried a Halon jobber in the airplane, go figure. It seems all the cars I see burning, or burnt, on the side of the road are newer models and I wonder why.
I guess I should join the 21st century and buy a extinguisher for the Mustang. Most likely gonna be another Halon.

If I had to guess, Gary, I'd think the problem with all the newer cars burning is the high pressure fuel system, which I have. Also crappy maintenance which I try to avoid.

I tend to carry passengers in the back of my Coupe, so other than the not cool visibility feature, having one mounted back there would be a real pain.

There aren't a lot of good places for one in a Stang, and I've never seen one that appealed to me. I used to have one in the back seat of my old Cheby years ago, and used it twice, but not on my car. Once to put out an engine fire on a Corvair, and again on a VW bug.

I have mine where BB has his on the floor. Easy to grab it if needed.

Not much use having one in a battery powered car.
A 10,000 gallon pumper fire truck can’t extinguish those lithium ion battery packs.
I also keep one in my DD, even if it’s for use on someone else’s car.

BB - well stated!
Mine is loose behind the driver's seat.
Some local shows/cruises require one, so it is handy if or when checked. Plus, tis better to have and not need than to need and not have.

I am gonna mount one in my car some where....I have put out a lot of car fires with the ones in my patrol car over the years.

Halon in an airplane? How does that work? Don't they function by displacing all the oxygen from the flame’s air supply? And yours???
I guess I would rather suffocate than get crispy crittered.
I know nothing about halon portable extinguishers, only systems installed in computer rooms. So, educate me.

Something about ozone depletion.

Yes Rudi, that was the reason given.
A shame really, it seemed like a great solution.

I still prefer my set up with the mini extinguisher in the glove box for a quick grab and then the larger fire extinguisher in the trunk.
I'm just not a fan of having a fire extinguisher on show inside the car.

The FAA recently issued an Airworthiness Directive removing Halon fire extinguishers from all aircraft.
