Is it at an angle?

You mentioned in a different topic that you used the Foxbody fuel rail.
How did you clamp the new fuel line to make it wider?

In the pic, that is a ford 5.0 Mallory fuel rail.  That however is not the rail I ended up using.  I reconditioned the 5.8 rail including replacing the fuel lines on the end.  I used perminant crimp styl hose clamps when I put on the new line.

Is that the ear crimp style clamps?

Properly those are called Oetiker clamps.  That's what I used on the return line for my '89GT because the repro stainless lines didn't have the fitting clamped onto the rubber line at the end.  Not sure why they make them like that.  I had no issue locating the correct fitting, so its not like they aren't available.

Re: Adapting a 5.0 car upper to a 5.8 truck lower

TKO….what are the factory “bands” on fuel rail?
And what type of line is it?
Just curious of composition of band and factory fuel line.

Daze…no rush at this time.  Still planning at this time.

There are no bands on the factory fuel rail.  Ford used a Nylon line that had a rubber outer wrap.  The rubber line often starts to look sketchy, but the line inside is almost always perfectly fine.  The lines were installed by heating the flexible portion to soften the Nylon to where it could be jammed over the barbs on the metal portion of the rails.  Once it cooled it made a perfect seal with no need for clamps.  I've head of guys replacing them with similar stuff, but the exact stuff Ford used seems to be unavailable.  Most guys just use high pressure rubber line made for fuel injection and lock it on with either worm drive clamps or Oetiker clamps.  If I was dead set to do it I'd use the Oetiker clamps.  I've seen many, many times where worm drive clamps loosen over time, which is why I think the OEMs never used them.

I’ll take a closer look, must be the stop at end of barb.
Thanks

Re: Adapting a 5.0 car upper to a 5.8 truck lower

Wow I actually remembered to take the pix.

You asked about fuel rail clearance here is a couple shots of that

Here is a shot of crimp on clamps.  They are stainless steel and uses a special crimping tool.

And here is the engine with the 5.0 upper on it.

If you decide you want to do this and don't want the fun of making an adapter I have an extra one, let me know.

Re: Adapting a 5.0 car upper to a 5.8 truck lower

Thanks for sharing that picture.

Reconditioned 5.8L line …is what I missed.
Did remember your upper intake is 180 from mine.

After looking at the pictures, what are following:

1)     What size/brand injectors?

2)    Is that IAT in upper intake (GM?)?

3)     What is height of TFI distributor (top center coil wire down to base/block?

Engine looks nice Daze.

That is just where I have it currently.  It might get flipped when I put it in the car

Nos681 wrote:

The size is 24 LBS/H, not sure the brand, I got them from MS as takeoffs from a new Mustang.  They are the EV6/EV11 type plug and I currently have adaptors to the EV1 harness

Nos681 wrote:

I am running a terminator X so a lot of my sensors are LS type including fuel pressure, oil pressure and temp.

Thanks I think it came together well.  as to the measurement what you wanting, the TFI to the top of the lower intake or the TFI to the top of the oil pan or something else?

Re: Adapting a 5.0 car upper to a 5.8 truck lower

Just the distributor base/block mating surface to top of center terminal of distributor.

The truck fuel pressure regulator might get in the way when you flip upper intake.
Might have to use the Mustang rails.

Thanks for the the other info too.

With the Holley setup, could you use a Duraspark distributor and a small male terminal cap for additional clearance? Of course, probably have to lock the weights.

=13px

Here you go.  The steel is 3/4" square tubing so it looks to be about 8.25"

Excellent point I hadn't thought about that.

Only mod is a special harness from Holly.  I have one and it cost me about $10.  You would still uses vacuum advance and the larger cap because spark is still going through the distributor.

Thanks Daze.

The 97 distributor (w/remote TFI 8 pin connector) is same height.

You you already made a 5.0 upper to truck 5.8 lower adapter like I did or purchased one of the aftermarket units?

Haven’t made a Mustang to truck adapter.
Playing with some other ideas right now.

Re: Adapting a 5.0 car upper to a 5.8 truck lower

What is height of 351w Duraspark distributor to center terminal to block flange?

What is height to metal rim (original small cap base) on 351w Duraspark distributor…without cap and adapter?

I believe ya Bob.

Just found my notes today…in the house of all places.

6-7/8” Duraspark male cap

7-7/16” Mallory dual points

Thanks again.
