test fitting a 245/45 17 late model mustang rim DSE mini tubs

Picked up two late model mustang rims and tires, 245/45 17 and is 9.6 inches wide and 25.7 tall. The mustang rim has a 5.72BS and is 8 inches wide. They are perfect for checking the tire fit and the DSE mini tubs I installed. I have 2.5 inches on the inside and roughly 3/4 to the rolled quarter panel lip. So depending how low the car sits will really determine what I can really fit. DSE claims a 315 will fit and it will but I will have to have all my measurements dead on and it may not tuck up and under as much as I would like. So I may got with a 305 to be safe but I think I have to step up to an 18 rim in the back. The 305/30 18 is 12 inches wide and 26.4 tall.

Take into consideration that the wheel tilts at an angle when entering driveways, etc

What width axle are you using for this setup?

It’s a 57-59 9 inch axle.

I plan on error on the side of caution but here in Florida there really isn’t a curb per say to drive over getting into the driveway.  The driveway is pretty much flat with the road.

See my article in Tips forum. I have the 17x8 fitment figured out with dimensions, but using stock wheelwells, not tubbed.

I should also mention that along with installing the DSE mini tubs ,I have also moved the leaf springs inboard 3 inches on each side using the Crites kit.  Suspension plans are Caltrac components.

Is that housing 52-3/8” wide?
Just making some notes for future reference.

Re: test fitting a 245/45 17 late model mustang rim DSE mini tubs

Thanks, I thought you had one that was slightly wider.

Perhaps it was the angle of the photo.

Vkt, those rears look like they would rub pretty good if you hit a big bump.

Re: test fitting a 245/45 17 late model mustang rim DSE mini tubs

I had run across an article that mentioned the different brake spacing of less than 2-1/2” on the 57-59 axles.

Therefore to have same overall width, housing would have to be longer.

All rear drum brake widths are based of the drum backing plating offset, not the axle width.

Try it with the wheels turned to lock each way, and then bounce the front.  That will tell you about your rub.   Somehow I can't believe you have no rub with your setup and wheels that large.  The rest of us have.  I have 215-55x16 in front.  wheels - 16x7, 4.25 bs.  With Shelby drop and 1" lowering GT springs, I still rub some.

It looks good, though.
