who is running a roller engine with v-belt pulleys??

trying to see what all I need to get up to make it all go smooth collecting parts to make the change
so far this balancer seems to be the one that has the 3 bolt capability and 50 oz. I beleive it has the correct spacer after reading the reviews..
Trying to decide on a flywheel.

Also what Cam did you use. I was reading where a trick flow stage 1 worked very well with the explorer engine with gt40 or gt40p heads more bottom end than the Ford cams.

What accessories are you running?   May be easier to buy a CVF setup.

Re: who is running a roller engine with v-belt pulleys??

have a 97 Explorer 5.0L engine with V belt and carb.
Used same Summit Damper SUM-163302.
I just transferred brackets from 289 to 302. Have manual steering. Alternator is a Tuff Stuff one wire TFF7068, reclocked the case and aligns fine with brackets. My AC is not working from old engine but moved bracket to 5.0L and using original 3 groove V-Belt pulley on Crank Damper. Should align up with original Ford AC or after market AC unit. I am using cast iron water pump from NAPA, 43049. It uses backing plate, not like the early versions where pump vanes are exposed.

Re: who is running a roller engine with v-belt pulleys??

I have Professional Products balancer PP-80006.  As I have a 351W (roller block), this model has the 28oz weight.  It has both the 3 & 4 bolt pulley patten.  I used V-Belt pulleys from 65-66 289 engines, crank pulley is a 3-bolt design.  Professional Products offers several different pulleys based one’s engine combination.

I have Comp Cams roller cam, #CL35-351-8.

65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

Aftermarket pulleys/brackets will allow you to use a modern AC compressor.

Re: who is running a roller engine with v-belt pulleys??

I know the CVF kit I bought is not cheap but it’s so easy to install and looks great.  I just need to get the correct crank spacer for my setup.  I just test fit it all yesterday.

Re: who is running a roller engine with v-belt pulleys??

I have the same balancer that Bob E has on my 331. My 3G alternator is driven with 2 “V” belts and March aluminum pulley’s.
When I went EPAS the  power steering pump was removed , that and all the junk associated with the o/e ps.

Re: who is running a roller engine with v-belt pulleys??

Once the correct balancer is installed, everything else is exactly the same as the 289, except the new timing cover requires two alignment dowels the 289 did not benefit from.
And you may need two EGR port threaded plugs so your bolts going into the heads will have something to screw into.  Plus two more to plug the back of the heads.
