I love Machinery's Handbook.  If my high school math teacher had used it to teach trig and logs,  I might have understood them better.

Same here.

Trig is something that flew over my head in school.  Took practical, physical experience to “get it”.  The trig charts in the Machinery’s handbook take the magic out of the sin cosine and tangent buttons on the calculator.

Re: Found source of vibration

I looked at ARP bolts for the 8” as well as 9”…from what I found last night, they only have one set of bolts that are 1-1/4” long everything else is  1” or shorter.  I don’t get it…I’ll take that cocktail now. 😁

Re: Found source of vibration

The holes are 1/2” and bolts are 7/16”-20.

I would think the correct bolts would be like a shoulder bolt.
1/2” shoulder with 7/16”-20 threads.
Couldn’t find any during my Dogpile search…I dislike Googling.😜

Even ARP and several differential supply/ build shops  don’t show bolts like that either.

These bolts should have a washer or a smaller diameter hole in traction lock.

Glad you found out what the problem was!

Re: Found source of vibration

All the ones I see are 1-1/4" long.  I think I'd use the ARPs or Yukon has them too.

Re: Found source of vibration

Happened to a buddy of mine. Forgot to loctite the bolts but he caught it before it had done any permanent damage.

Re: Found source of vibration

McMaster-Carr is your friend.

I’d measure up the carrier and the depth of the ring gear holes.

Also consider Nord Lock washers

Re: Found source of vibration

I called Quick Performance yesterday and Master bearing overhaul kit is on its way.
Kit includes correct hardware for aftermarket Traction Lock and the larger bearings.
Did find a dimple in housing, no leaks though.

I did look at those 12 point Grade 9 bolts too.

Re: Found source of vibration

Relearned that all of this stuff is heavy.
This is the baby 8” not the 9”.

The 65 is alive and rollin’.

Made several circles and figure 8’s in the yard to get the friction modifier distributed.
Took a cruise into town to filler up and get some ice cream:

The cleaning of the replacement carrier housing and the disassembly/clean/reassembly of traction lock was time consuming, not difficult.

Quick Performance provided the master overhaul kit (Yukon Gear).
The kit comes with 1” and 1-1/4” ring gear bolts with larger carrier bearings.
I figured the 1” hardware is used for spools.

Thanks for the help.

I like this Lube Locker gasket.

I even did circles in reverse and straight back too.😁

I happened to notice on the C7 carrier, if you have fill plug removed…you can see all ring gear bolt heads.
I’m using my original 65 housing with the fill plug, that’s how I noticed it.
I was waiting for gear oil to start seeping out of the carrier plug hole.
Occasionally I rotated the axle to distribute gear oil back into the carrier assembly.

I don’t know if same is possible for 9” carrier.

On a 9", the oil should be at, or slightly below, the level of the carrier fill hole.  I would think the 8" rear would be the same.
Bottom line, if you added the correct amount of fluid, and you have no leaks, you're good.
