Inquiring minds, or at least I'm curious what winter projects any of y'all are planning on doing over the winter. Me, I've gotta find out why the turn signals and flashers stopped working after adding the factory AC. But being in Cali, few drivers use their signals anyway. I also need to get made and install the lines connecting the condenser, dryer, compressor and AC box. A recent thread has me thinking about running the line behind the right fender apron.
I've been a bit bored, and lazy recently, so give me sumpin to read

Check the harness plug from column to main harness.
My next task on my Mustang is to install yet another clutch. The leg effort on this basic stage 1 spec clutch is more than I can stand.
I got a screaming deal on a centerforce dual friction like I used to have, so that needs to go in.
I wish I could get this done before the mini bash, but just too much effort involved.
My next Mustang I build will have an automatic.

Trying to get "promised projects" out of the way plus a couple of things on my own list. Namely, two EFI harnesses; change the Heap oil (dun); two design projects on CAD which I won't go into. Considered swapping the 4R70W back into the Heap, replacing the AOD but decided that will have to wait 'til next winter. And, of course, the usual winter required stuff like cleaning off driveways when we get more than a skiff of snow...did ten yesterday for the neighborhood widows and old folks.

Coupemama wanted a functional Truck tastefully lowered on factory wheels. And wants it to be able parked in lot and not worry if it gets scratched or dings. No Cam that sounds like the he car has a cold at Idle. The exhaust has to have a little growl when she it’s the Gas & no Pipes coming out the rear or side she does not want to see them These are my instructions to follow. I have until July 3 to have it ready. Parts already found used is a GM crate motor for a truck it ran good pre vortec 350 that I was gifted . A 700R4 trans with 2800 lock up converter with all the parts to build it a Rpm air gap intake and Comp cam roller Vortec. Starting point is a 1986 Chevy short wheel base regular Cab with a leaking 350 engine with 350 sliding in gear trans. The PO changed the trans to a 350 from a 700R runs good drives good with cold AC I drove it from Louisiana 3 weeks ago.Since the bash is in Texas this year the only upgrade the coupe will be getting is a Pro 5.0 shifter but of course that can wait until the bash thrash Lol. This the picture I took in LA before I left. I know it’s a Chevy but it’s a winter Project lol

Well winter is different here in Florida but it is perfect weather to be in the garage. I’ve been adding items to my project list on my NPD account. Still plugging away on the bodywork.

I have to pull the motor on this pig and replace the oil pan gasket as it's developed a nasty leak.

Oinker ???.
I’d be hard pressed to find one in that condition around here, looks rust free!

Bearing Bob – something else to check … are the brake lights working? The turn signal, flashers and brake light circuits go through the turn signal switch. This switch could be the problem.
Winter projects:
Installing MSD EFI system with new 22-gallon tank (thanks to NOS681, Dan, for the info provided)
Rebuild the rear end, change from 3.89s to 3.70’s (hoping to eliminate vibration issue)
KeithP – please follow up with progress on the electric steering installation.

If you’re using the one piece oil pan gasket, it is flexible enough to fish around the oil pump pickup without pulling engine.
I was able to that with the 5.0L in the ‘92 Mustang.
A mechanic friend said he does it all of the time on the trucks.
My winter projects pertain to cleaning up the garage…if I don’t get side tracked…SQUIRREL…and snow relocation projects.

Now that you mention it... they are not working. Been chasing this for a couple of months, but when my son and I were first checking, we both recall the brake lights working. Though CRS may have sumpin to do with that. Thanks for the tip.

As per MS......go ahead and spring for the FoMoCo factory turn signal switch (take your wallet!) The ONLY switch that will last any length of time.
I did and.....he's right........

Jew guys...slooow down. I had to finish the year long motor and lower control arms rebuild, and the install of the AC on the 69. I'm currently doing some body work, paint strip, and printer job on my brother's 65 coupe. Once I finish with the 65, I'll get going on the 56 F100 which is patiently waiting in the shop. Besides, I could just look at the 56 ever day till I die, and still be a happy man.

I understand the need for AC and the motor rebuild. What gives with the lower control arms? What's a printer job??

Awesome truck! I had an '86 K20 long bed I drove on bad weather days in high school, which led me to buy my '87 K5 when I went to college. Both trucks were the same color as yours. If you need any info/advice I know this generation of Chevy truck really well. I built a 383 for my Blazer and a 700R4.

My biggest project will be fixing the mechanic, namely me. I'm going in for surgery next week and then looking at about an 8 week recovery during which I don't know how much I'll be able to do.
Once I'm back in action my winter/early spring project will be putting a new engine in my '06 F250. It either lost a head gasket or cracked a head in early November. At close to 300k with a slight RMS leak I decided to just build an engine for it. I'll be starting with an RCD shortblock and topping it with UCF heads. Due to lead times I probably won't have the shortblock until March anyway. I'm very much toying with the idea of putting compound twins on it. I will be putting a billet input shaft in the trans just in case. It could easily put down 800HP at the wheels and probably 1,200 lbs/ft. or more. Probably run high-mid 11s and still be perfectly streetable. A pricey proposition though, so we'll see.

Good luck on the surgery and recovery. If physical therapy is involved, my only advice is listen to what they say and don’t push it.

What surgery, if I might ask? Two years a go in March I had my left shoulder replaced. Did the PT religiously as prescribed and I was able to come back in good time. Best of luck on your surgery - I hope you have the desired outcome.

Hey Quicksilver, what part of the central coast do you live? I get over there a few times a year, and have been going to the North-South F100 meet in Santa Maria for several years.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
