Making your own brake lines?

Anybody here ever make their own brake lines with the PTFE braided hose and reuseable AN connectors?

Re: Making your own brake lines?

I haven’t.

I used Inline Tube for all of my flexible lines.
I thought their prices were reasonable.

They sell on their own site as well as Flea Bay.
Just pay attention on listings as pair or each.

I found “kits” that fit my needs under GM and Jeep.
I have 2016 Mustang GT brakes front and rear.

I have straight hoses with as needed ends.

I would like to see the outcome and long term usage report on those!  It would be great to be able to make specific-fit brake hoses for custom applications. 👍🏻

I did use the braided PTFE lines and reusable AN fittings for the old Borgeson power steering setup I had on my Mustang. I had limited miles on that setup before I replaced it with the EPAS steering, but I did not see any signs of leakage when I removed the hoses.  The power steering hydraulic pressure is lower than the braking hydraulic pressure so I am questioning that. The reason I was considering them was that I had some custom hoses made for my rear brake setup with the crimped fittiings but I don't really like the way they fit. I think I can do better.

I also see that they make those reusable AN fittings for the AC hoses too. That would make my life easier when I get to connecting up my compressor setup.

Re: Making your own brake lines?

Its the same type of hose they use for the braided brake lines you buy.  They are PTFE (Teflon) inside, braided wrap on the exterior, and sometimes they coat the braided with plastic to make them a color.  I've seen hoses made for race cars with the AN fittings before.  So long as the working pressure and burst pressure are in keeping with a brake system I don't see an issue.

Re: Making your own brake lines?

I my old brain is working, I seem to recall that I made up the front brake lines...braided stainless...on my Model A Speedster from stuff I bought at the original Earl's Supply in Bell Gardens, CA.  That was in '72 and, according to my pix, it looks like they were still on there when I saw the car in '18.

Re: Making your own brake lines?

Well Bob you sure brought back some memories with that reference. I grew up in Bell Gardens in the 50s and 60s. Went to Earls numerous times with my older brother.

I think you got out just in time.  I was in Maywood in the early 70's and it  was better than BG...but it wasn't good.   I loved Earl's.  They had rows of small barrels of every kind of fastener or fitting you could think of...by the pound IIRC.  I see they are in Lawndale now, prolly new mgt.
