Re: Making a 351w oil pan fit a 289/302/5.0

I’m interested in seeing how this works out.   Not that I think it won’t.  I think it’s a great idea.

Re: Making a 351w oil pan fit a 289/302/5.0

I received the rear filler piece I designed and Bullet Bob machined for me today. A quick trial fit shows it should do the job perfectly if I use side rail gaskets. If I decide to just go with RTV on the side rails (no gasket), I will need to clearance the pan radiused areas front and rear so it has a tiny gap for RTV end seals.
Either way, it looks like this will work!

Why do I need that?  PCV system pulls fresh air into the engine and then back out. Not like this is a high RPM race engine.

ah, I can just see all this meticulous  work be shaved off by the first speed bump the custom pan will not clear...

That is the good part about using this type of oil pan.  It is exactly the same depth as a stock 5 quart steel pan.  It is just alot wider.

What’s the internal baffles look like? A wide pan needs them to control oil level at the pickup in high G lateral forces.

It has gates where the wider part of the pan intersects the normal width part. They only flow towards the center part. It gas cast-in webs for the gates to seal against.
