Not mine, but I have always wanted a set: 302 Ford Tunnel port - auto parts - by owner - vehicle automotive sale - craigslist.

Yeah, if I had money to burn...

Money, time and patience. Tuning could be challenging.

I would love to build one. It would make for a cool conversational piece at the cat meets.

Definitely pegs the cool meter, but completely impractical for anything else. Its a high RPM race engine. I'm sure it screams at 8,000RPM, but it probably also idles at 2,000RPM. Race engines don't make good, or even fun street engines. From a racing standpoint its too valuable to risk damage actually racing it, and even if you were foolish enough to do that its doubtful its competitive with the modern hardware. Even in vintage racing, there's a reason this design was abandoned in favor of the BOSS302. Basically it was a cool evolutionary step.

I built a 460 SCJ engine that had major head work done. Had a solid roller cam 714 lift and 310 duration, if my memory serves me correctly. Car wouldn’t idle below 1700rpm and had a 1050 BG carb on top, back by a big in big out top loader 4-speed in a 70 fastback. I loved driving that car on the street.
I would build and drive a TP 302 all day, even it wasn’t practical. I would enjoy it. Lol

Its only 126 cubic inches smaller with basically the same size ports. Fun as a 6:13 rear gear would be...
Yeah, we had a ton of cars that had worked big blocks back in the day. My uncle had a '67 L88 Vette, my Dad had an LS6 Chevelle that ran 10s. They were a lot of fun on the street, but they still had some measure of low speed torque.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
