My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

My last order was two 15x7 Magnum 500 wheels.  They looked good, so I paid $50 at a tire shop to replace two old Magnums. On the way home, the steering wheel shook violently. Went back immediately and pulled them off. The lug nut holes had not been stamped or machined to have a cone shape for the tapered lug nuts. Then I paid to have the old Magnums put back on.

Cj Pony refuses to take the wheels back because they have been mounted.  What a pile of brown stuff!!!

My advice would be for everyone to NEVER buy from CJ Pony ever again.

Same thing happened with my new back seat upholstery for my 69.  The lastings were sewn in a wrong location where it was impossible to use.  Didn't figure this out until halfway through the installation process.

That company has seen the last of my business

Sorry they got you. Hear this same story almost daily between forums and the Facebook groups.

Did you pay by credit card. You may be able to file a complaint with your CC company. Bank America helped me a few times

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

I bought a set of Styled Steel wheels from Maryland Mustang. The ad showed charcoal in the cutouts. The wheels were from Scott Drake. When I received them, they looked great, but the color was argent, not charcoal. I sent them back. I looked at the Scott Drake wheels that CJ Pony parts had, but their selection and price wasn't what I wanted. They didn't have a set of four with caps and nuts - had to order separately for more money - just seemed like more hassle than I wanted to deal with. I ordered a set from NPD - Scott Drake wheels, but they looked great, were charcoal, and I had them installed with no problems. The price was within a few dollars of the CJ Pony price.

Then you should actually have two layers of protection, both PayPal and Visa.  PayPal I believe will refund the transaction and you aren't even required to return the merchandise.

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

Hiding behind the mounted policy is CRAP. I believe that policy is in place for when people order wheels and just don't like them, they ordered wrong size, width etc. So if they are unmounted and returned they can resell them. But these are actually defective so they cannot honestly resell them regardless.

I get their newsletter and have bought several things in the past from them, I'll be unsubscribing and will not do business with them.

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

I have seen lots of issues with CJ on another very popular Mustang forum and don't order from them any longer - not that this helps you any.

I've not had much success with the PayPal disputes but my VISA credit card company has been great.

I bought the Magnum 500's I had on my car (this was long ago) from John's Mustang in Houston.  His products were consistently good and on the rare occasion when there was an issue, he worked with me to make it right.  I can say the same for National Parts Depot.  I've only had one issue with them (they packed an order in a large box that contained a rear-view mirror and some heavy stuff that ended up breaking the mirror) - called them about it and they sent out a replacement mirror at no charge and didn't need the damaged one back.

Hope your adventure turns out well though.

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

Not sure if CJ has a Facebook page, but I'd suggest posting what happened if they do have one.
A few years ago w/Comp Cams when I ordered a roller cam kit that was pictured with the "dogbone" as part of the pakage.  The dogbone wasn't sent, I inquired as to why, and was told it is not part of the kit.  When I complained on Facebook, Comp Cams sent me the dogbone.
I then posted on Facebook that they made good.
Just saying.

Here is line item #5 from their Return Policy:

5.If your product is defective or damaged, we'll refund you for the part and pay the return shipping costs. CJ Pony Parts is not responsible for incidental fees like towing, labor, storage, etc.

If you're within 60 days of purchase you should be covered.

This shows what they told me. They want me to send he parts back at my expense, but since they were installed, there will be no refund.

Sounds like they're NOT classifying it as a defective part. I would definitely call Joshua and explain that the part is defective.

Ditto on it being determined to be a defective part. Who's gonna notice the stud holes not having the stamping process completed before mounting the tires and the wheels onto the car?

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

If you buy a wheel and tyre package from CJ, do the tyres come mounted? Is it now returnable with the same defect? I stopped using CJ years ago after a phone order where I asked that if something wasn't in stock, to wait until everything was there before shipping international. They agreed.
Of course I was told it was all in stock.
Get an email 2 days later saying some wasn't in stock, 3 international shipments later for stuff that would've fitted in the first box.
Never again.

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

It almost looks like the "cones" were stamped into the back side of the wheels.

So it is like they did them backwards?

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

I bet one of the other popular vendors would have still taken those back.   Mounted or not, it’s very clear they are in no way useable.   Given the history of CJ, they won’t do anything no matter how strong your case is.

I swear I think CJ’s is just trying to cash in on as much as they can for as long as they can before they shut down.

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

MS - from the pictures, it also appears that the bolt cycle is not the right diameter.  I suggest posting at least that last picture showing not only lack of the 'cones', but the 4/5" diameter is slightly off on CJ's Facebook page.

If you compare it to the picture of the rim on the CJ Pony website, the hole does not have the machining done to make it slightly concave.

Re: My last order from CJ Pony. Defective Magnum 500 wheels

As much as I like the looks of chrome, I have had several different issues with Steel Magnum 500's

Black Paint chipping and peeling
Chrome pitted and rusting
Several out of round and not able to balance

I am close to KY Mustang, and they have always taken care of me, but I typically figure I will go through 8 wheels before I have four the work.

A friend bought a set of the Aluminum Legendary Brand Magnum 500's and while they don't have the look of chrome, they do look nice, were lighter, great appearance, and ROUND.

Sounds like if you have a defective light switch knob. they will pay for return shipping. But when it comes to 4 wheels. they don't want to eat it. These Mustang only shops are slowly going out, business is not what it once was. Like someone said just hanging on, not worried about return business.
