I have been out for some time but am starting two new projects started,
1966 Coupe - Needs very Little (Going to be a comfortable driver)
1967 Mercury Comet - Complete build, it is down to the shell (Built for local cruise-ins, make a lot of noise)
My question is concerning Power Steering. In the past I have had a 66 with the Flaming River Quick ratio manual box and it was nice for my days with the skinny's up front and drag look. On my 68 I originally rebuilt the factory power ram and then went to the Borgeson Power conversion. The biggest issue I had with the Borgeson was it was somewhat over boosted. I know some talked about a pressure reducer at the pump which was supposed to help.
I guess what does everyone feel is the best bang for the buck for power steering? I know some of you use a R&P, and some have made the jump to EPAS. I really want to keep it simple for this 66, Right now my upgrade plans include:

I’ve never installed an EPAS setup but it’s the direction I would go with over the factory PS setup. R&P to me is a completely different approach and I’ve only looked at R&P to get rid of all the steering components and have a tighter feeling steering setup. Never thought of going to R&P for PS. If I was swapping to an R&P setup then it sure would have PS.

My car came to me with the factory power steering. I liked it. I stupidly replaced it with a Flaming River quick ratio box, which leaked all the grease out and was so loose after only 2500 miles that I couldn't drive the car. I replaced that with a manual quick-ratio Ford box, which is still working perfectly after 18000 miles. If I wanted power, I'd go with the original equipment (OE) setup. Brackets, hoses, and other parts that were designed to fit the vehicles are all readily available, and there's almost no worry about mix/match/customizations to get it all to fit and work together. There are also people who are known to do quality rebuilds of the OE stuff as needed.

I love the Borgeson setup. I have installed a bunch for others and have two myself. The one in my 65 convertible will be borgeson with Shelby quick steer kit. I can’t wait to see what that drives like.
I have TCP power rack on my 66. Borgeson steers better and has less garbage hanging under the car, even though the rack has been on there since 2005. Right now it needs rubber boots replaced after 19 years. No leaks or seepage from the rack, hoses or KRC pump.

Leave it manual.....don't go with 'road-packer size ' front tires.....make sure the manual box is FULL of grease
(helped mine greatly!!!)... do a little upper body strengthening(relax...jus kidd'in!)...Shelby drop...roller pit man arm....lotsa stuff to improve it to near PS feel.
Only time you MIGHT need PS is when you parallel park (how often is that?)

Borgeson is the way to go. Just make sure you have 3.5 degrees of positive caster or more and if its too much assist get their pressure reducing kit. Its just shims for the relief valve. Very easy to install.

If you go that route, the Borgeson pressure reducing kit is # 899001, and comes with everything you’ll need.
The Mustang looks really nice.

I have had the borgison kit from CJ Ponys on my 65 coupe now for 10 years. never had a problem and just got back from a nice 8K road trip. Handled like it was on rails. I use Lucas synhtic PS fluid
