On my last build which was a long time ago.  I would go into the parts store with the part number of the item I needed and would ask for that specific part number.   They always asked what car it's for.  So to make things funny I would tell them a 65 mustang knowing the part was from a different year and car.  lol

Well, actually...the air cooled VWs did have a thermostat...sorta.  It was inside the engine tin and operated a set of flaps that controlled air from the fan.  A bi-metal thing,

Needed a 1/4" x 1/8" pipe compression fitting years ago to connect an ice maker.  Closest place was auto zoo so I gave 'em a try,  After waiting in line for a few minutes, the kid asked, "Ah, what vehicle is it for?"  I thought for a sec and said, "Frigidaire", and drove to a hardware store.

Yes, I know, but it won't come up when they go into cooling system and try to find a thermostat.  I was a bit more sadistic when I was younger and may have done this a couple times...

A couple of times I just told them it is for a custom hot rod that won't show up in the book.

1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

Sometimes you just have to “lead the horse to water” and make it drink…even if it’s not thirsty.

Walk the person through it, some might benefit from it.
Never know.

Better than the store where they are just standing around and no one wants to assist the customer because it’s “not their job.”

Sometimes both of these employees are in the same store at same time.

Ran into this in Austin a couple of years ago.

WELL remember you might be rebuilding an automatic that had clutches in them, just saying.
