Power steering is squealing

68 Cougar with borgeson conversion and the saginaw pump. Pump is only 4 months old but it is squealing on low rpm turns and is getting worse. Really bad right after start up.
Any suggestions to look at before I order a new one?

Re: Power steering is squealing

Proper tension on the belt?  Is the mount flexing?  The Borgeson mounting on these pumps is Mickey Mouse at best IMO.  I would also advise checking the pump shaft for endplay.  There should be some, but a lot indicates the pump is worn out inside.

Re: Power steering is squealing

Try vacuum bleeding the air out of system.

There are videos on how to do it.

Even a slight seep at a fitting can introduce air and cause cavitation.

Just to cover the basics, is the fluid at the proper level?

Re: Power steering is squealing

Is it a Saginaw Gen 1 or is it a Gen II pump?

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.
