Off topic. Nashville

I got a job offer in Nashville that I'm currently entertaining.   We've had long term plans to move there and this just kind of happened when I was causally looking at jobs in TN.  The job would be on the West side of Nashville.  Anyone have information on where to live and or not live?   Looking to rent for a year and build a Barndominium with a nice shop. Looks like buying land in that area is a little limited.

I have gotten interest from another company that would allow me to work from home but I'm pretty sure the pay won't be as much.  If this job was to work out then I could move anywhere.   We really like the Knoxville area.

Re: Off topic. Nashville

I can’t help out with the area, but be aware that land prices can vary quite a lot on vacant property due to the access to utilities; electric, sewers, gas and water.

Re: Off topic. Nashville

We've been looking at a lot of properties or I should say what we can find on Zillow.   I got in contact with a realtor from the recruiter I spoke with.   I really appreciate any and all replies because this will be a big move, if it happens.    Just want to do as much research as I can and what better way than to ask my fellow mustang enthusiasts.

I moved to Knoxville in 2008.  East TN is a really beautiful part of the country to live in.  I have no complaints.

That was one of the areas we really liked but I haven't heard back from that hospital.   Nashville may be a better choice anyways because our daughter wants to work at the children's hospital in Nashville.   My wife will apply there to but she's really looking for remote work.

I still haven't take an online test for one of the remote jobs I applied for.

I have a Webex interview on the 17th with the hospital in Nashville.  This will decide if I take the offer or not.    I have a long list of questions already written out.

Re: Off topic. Nashville

One thing I've found with a move like this, you may want to ask about relocation expenses.  Some companies do offer them, but sometimes you have to ask.  Coupled with this perk, typically one has to agree to stay with the company for some period of time, or will have to pay back that moving costs that were provided.

That's already been offered and a very very good sign on bonus.   But it's not something we were looking for because I was originally hoping for a work at home job which could still happen.

Re: Off topic. Nashville

I had taken time off for the Gator Nationals so the wife and I drove up to Nashville to visit the hospital that has offered the job.  I got to meet a couple of the doctors and the staff.   Very impressed with the hospital and the EP lab staff.  We looked at property while there and couldn't find anything we liked.   Last night we were discussing everything and I decided to let them know I was interested in the position.   Should have my official offer in two weeks.   They have to request a change to get me onboard.  They need to change a nurse position into my position so they can hire me.  Moving is going to suck but I'm looking forward to possibly having a shop to work in.   We are looking a building all new and or buying a home with a good size shop or a home with property to build a shop.

Re: Off topic. Nashville

Some companies may pay for relocation expenses.
They may even purchase your existing home so you can relocate close to job location.
Worth asking about.

Re: Off topic. Nashville

I countered their first offer and got a little more.   Then I sat on the decision for a few days and decided to make the move.   I'll have the offical offer in about two weeks.  I'm getting a huge sign on bonus and money for moving.   It was a tough decision but with my daughter and her husband moving there soon, I figured I better take this offer now because it may not be this good next time.   Working with a realtor now to try and see what are options will be.  We did find a lot we like but are also looking to see what's kind of homes are first sale.   We really want to build.

I'm going to enjoy having three days off a week and not taking any more call nights and weekends.  Plus no late night online work meetings.

Looks like it might be a 45 minute or so drive to work from there.   Next question would be can we afford it.   Lol

Re: Off topic. Nashville

Congratulations on the new adventure. You could make it a goal to drive the Mustang into the new garage/shop under its own power!! Took me 30 years to accomplish it.

It'll be running and driving before I move to Nashville.   It'll be at least a year to find property and have something built.  I do have a 70 fastback shell waiting to be worked on.

Re: Off topic. Nashville

Made many trips to Clarksville/Nashville.  My brother-in-law was stationed at Fort Campbell.  Clarksville isn't to bad.  There's some nice property in between Clarksville and Nashville.

I do t recall how close Clarksville is but it is proving difficult finding property close to Nashville.   We have our eye on a lot that has all the utilities at the road.  Just not sure if it will be available when we are.
