Wondering what you guys think a 351 roller block is worth. Don't come across these much. A guy is selling a motor, transmission and drive train from a 97 F350. It says it's from a Township plow truck with 30K miles on it. Pictures look like there outside so I'm not sure how long it's been out. Also no intake in the pictures, don't really care but it could be a weather issue. I don't know if he will separate but was going to ask.

I keep my eye out pretty consistently for 351/5.8 short blocks and long blocks and that one (if true stats) sounds like a great find. You might bore scope it to be sure. But if it really is stock bore and low mileage, a roller motor, it is a pearl. Around here roller 5.8s are pretty rare and usually north of $750 and not one of the ones I've seen was low miles/original install. What's it worth? Around here it'd probably fetch $1000. Hard to say.
The non roller 351 block in my fastback now displaces 422ci and it was a $200 short block. The NR 5.8 in my son's Bronco was already .030 over so I found a $100 high mileage NR 5.8 out of an F-150 that we built. It's now .030 over and running in the Bronco. The takeout .030 that seemed a lost cause cleaned up at .040 so it's going to get a 4" crank and some nice bits. Wish it were a roller.

Around here in SW Florida a bare block on average is about $500 and more in if it's a complete engine. I got lucky when I needed one I posted a want as and found one for $200. That was a couple years ago. I still watch hoping to snag a deal on another one, even though I don't need it.

Typically around $400 for core short block. Pretty rare, though.
Having built several of every variation of Ford small blocks, I am sold on roller 5.0 based engines. Much easier to work around once installed. Of course, I am now in the old fart category and having a running car is more important than having the fastest car.
And, no, you can’t have my aluminum 427.

Less than a year ago my son bought a bare roller 5.8 block at the Wrench-A-Part in Del Valle, TX for $225 with a core exchange. I had an old 302 block he turned in for the core. The engine was complete in an Econoline van and we had to strip it down to get just the block.

You might try an engine rebuilder, they may be willing to sell you a bare block. (if they have some).

Just remember if you’re have a manual transmission with the Original “Z-Bar” clutch mechanism, the newer blocks do not have the threaded hole for attaching the Z-Bar.

I have no use for one at the moment, but I wouldn't pass one up for the right price. Those blocks are only ever going to be worth more money than they are now. A block doesn't take up much space either (I've still got a 390 block and heads under my one workbench that in truth I kind of forgot about until thinking about where I could store a roller 351 block). I think $400 would be my max investment though. Now, if he's only willing to sell the whole deal you can probably sell the rest of the parts off and recoup a lot of your outlay. It just may take some time. '97 would have an E4OD trans I think. That's probably worth a couple hundred if its a good working low mileage trans.
