The above Mustangs were sorta 'shunned' by alotta the Mustang guys for a bunch of reasons.
Therefore...they don't draw the $$$ as the classic 65-66-67-68-69-70 "real Mustangs" !
I guess its a matter of...'what toots your whistle...trips your trigger...rings your bell..etc'.
Personally I always sorta liked the way they look (like a Mustang that got wet and shrank) OR
like the Opel GT that resembles a shrunk Vett (I REALLY dig those)
The under-loved Mustangs could use some up-grades to make it more appealing to the Die-Hard-Haters.
THIS......makes me like'm plenty more !! (How bout cha'll )

I prefer tires that fit.
But, I do like the looks of those cars. You NEVER see one at a show.

I like them one of my best friends mom had a 1978 white with red stripes 302 4 speed Cobra. She was a hot rodder too probably what got me and him both interested in Hot Rods the next car she got was a red 83 GT I remember it saying BOSS 302 on hood scoop. when it was sold it got totaled and they bought it back and made it into a dragster.

They made one called a King Cobra too.

My older brother had an orange a black stripe one that he came home from the service with. He let me drive it out on a date one night. I remember it running well and handling well. What I remember most was he had a CD player in it which he got in Germany, and that was pretty rare around these parts in the mid 80s. Anyways he rolled it, then bought a Chebby Vega 4 cyl stick shift and I remember that POS being about ten times more fun to drive.

That was the first and second mustang I owned. Both V8 cars and the second one was a Cobra II. It was the first car I ever restored. It got a built 289 with a solid lifter big cam and redid the body and paint. I installed a 9" rear and a T5 trans. I never lost a street race in that car. It was super fast. Shifted at 7,000. At 7200 the T5 had trouble shifting. At one point I ran an 850 DP carb on it. I actually smoked a big block Chevelle from a stop light with that set up. I could miss second gear and still out run anyone I raced. Never had traction at the drag strip and could only run 14 flat but would do so at 114-116 mph. I still wish to build another one and for a long time I tried to track my old one down. I was always told it was sitting in some barn.
That 289 was the first engine I ever built and did all the port work on the heads myself. Way before the old internet days. That car was a blast to drive. I'll have to see if I have pictures of it somewhere.

There's one on a trailer tucked in somebody's yard I drove past yesterday. It looks like its been there for a decade or more.
'74-'78 were dark times in terms of factory performance. V8s making less HP than a typical non-turbo 4 cylinder economy car now. IIRC the only year the Camaro outsold the Mustang was '77. Typically the Mustang outsold the Camaro, Firebird, and Corvette combined.
But, as usual the combination of a light car and a big HP engine makes for a lot of fun.

Mike it's hard not to like that blue stang but there's something about the white one that looks good.

I always like the Mustang II Fastback w/o all the aerodynamic body add-ons and paint graphics.
I especially liked Jack Roush’s 460 powered street racer.

There's an MII Monroe Mustang for sale on Facebook in one of the MII groups. It's all original down to the paint and he's asking $35k.

We have a couple of those in our club - a 77 Ghia, and a King Cobra. Both cars are in immaculate condition. Personally, I was never a fan of the Gen 2 "red-headed stepchild" models, as I loved the Gen 1 models.
And Sally (Mike) - I had a 1969 Opel GT "mini-Corvette". I loved that car! It was a blast to drive, and it had those manual "flip open" headlights too. If you remember Mr. Tim, he had an Austin Healy that he installed a 289 in. His instrument panel was out of a Opel GT. When I got married, my wife was driving it, until she got pregnant, and when she no longer could fit behind the steering wheel, I sold it and got a 76 Ford Granada Ghia, which was our family car for eight years until our family grew bigger, and we traded that in on an 84 Country Squire station wagon. The kids loved the rear facing back seat. I wish I still had that little GT.......

I have never been a fan either, but those cars ultimately kept Ford from killing the model. Had the Mustang II not been somewhat successful what happens in '79? Does Ford revive the Mustang after some years of not producing one? Does it even end up on the Fox platform? There are so many ways this could have gone horribly, horribly wrong for the brand. The Mustang II kept it alive until better days dawned once again. I'll respect it for that if nothing else. You can't really pick at the performance either; it was dead basically everywhere at that time.

I don’t remember the MII Monroe Mustang, so I Googled it … and yes, still don’t care for the aerodynamic body add-ons or paint graphics.
