AI Paint Job for Penny (the ratty FB)

She decodes to a raven black on black 65. So the abuse that an orange earl scheib paint job and then a mentos green Maaco job dealt to here can now be instantly reversed. Google's "nano banana" AI to the rescue.
Hmmm, maybe I have an idea for a car show placard and a binder with all the angles covered. Ha!

I've gotta admit it looks good in black!
On the other end of the spectrum, my black 67, is in the shop going back to its original colour, Lime Gold.
Contrary to modern tastes, it was the most popular colour in 67.
I was sorta undecided on the colour, until Bolted (John Dixon), finished his car.

Re: AI Paint Job for Penny (the ratty FB)

Orange is the new black 😜

The faded green on the fastback reminds me of the metal primer used prior to the “nonskid” on aircraft carrier flight deck and hangar bay.

I dig that color green whatever it is.

IIRC that would be Olive Drab zinc chromate.

Re: AI Paint Job for Penny (the ratty FB)

I would like to see the original version of this photo.
You can leave the gas pump out of pitcher.
Looks like same pump/spot from 2024.

My 68 came from the factory Sunlit Gold, I could not have lived with that. Plow its  some shade of resale red.

Re: AI Paint Job for Penny (the ratty FB)

Black does look good but I couldn't have a black car.  I'm too lazy to maintain a black paint to keep it looking good.

It is the photo that you shot some time past 1am in Goshen CA. It was during my failed attempt to get Penny from Fresno to Bob's Bakersfield Bash. Low charging alternator was causing ignition problems and every carb I had (three of them) had some sort of problem. So charging system driven poor spark and carb issues weren't side of the highway repaired that night. Which led to a very foggy set of Bash memories. Yowza.

I do not know why Nano Banana moved it from being a slightly from the rear photo to a straight on side photo.

Olive drab zinc chromate. I like it. And Dan, other people do too. It gets a lot of comments. Way more than my Acapulco blue 69 Mach 1 with a shiny driver quality paint job. Way more.

Well, that made my day. Glad to hear it.

She gets a lot of compliments, comments and thumbs ups and she elicits tons of conversations. I took her to a "Rods on the Bluffs" car show deal and that wasn't a great fit. More trailer queens there than real hot rods, which isn't my deal at all. Can't understand an over-restored car that isn't a car any more. Gotta drive 'em. I even drive my SCJ more often now. Particularly when it's not in the 90's or above temp wise.
There are a lot of facets of this hobby, the building part, the driving part and the showing them off part.

Re: AI Paint Job for Penny (the ratty FB)

IMO a car that never gets driven isn't a car.  Its garage furniture.  A car that's too valuable to drive is an oxymoron.

Exactly!  Because if you have enough money to afford very valuable, very rare cars; you have enough money to fix them if God forbid anything happens to them.

I understand Leno drives his cars and every so often he has them ‘restored’.  Nice to have that kind of money.

Could be, but he's also a hands on guy.  I watched him light the pilot and take out one of his Stanley Steamers once.  He also has had parts manufactured for some of his cars that are then also available for others to buy, due to quantity price breaks.  There was a thing years back about how he had new cylinder heads cast for something rare (a Rolls I think), because there were no new ones and the originals were all failure prone and junk.  If I had his money that's the kind of stuff I'm sure I'd do too.

I didn’t mean anything negative towards Jay Leno.  I realize he has done a lot for car enthusiasts.  Having someone on ‘our side’ advocating for the hobby we enjoy is a great asset to have.

Absolutely.  Its s shame the law he sponsored didn't pass.  CA car enthusiasts would be a lot better off if it had.  How are people supposed to maintain the emissions systems on 60 year old cars when there are no parts available?  By refusing to pass this common sense law CA has shown that they are prejudicial against our hobby, and take the stance of planned obsolesence embraced by car manufacturers, which is based entirely on greed.
