    I do have a running and driving Mustang...:) Question about Engine

    I've had a squeaky noise for a long time.   I think its coming from the Roller Rockers and it only happens when the engine is warm and at idle.  I've adjusted the rocker arms and its still the same.  I did notice when I changed the oil this last spring and added a quarter quart of Lucas Engine oil with the oil change it didn't make the noise.  Thanks Steve69

    First thing I'd do is remove all the belts and maybe a VC and isolate it better. Sounds a lot like a dry waterpump.

    Can you use a mechanic's stethoscope to try to isolate the sound?

    Check if your air cleaner is tightened down all the way. I had the SAME sound and it drive me nuts. Touched the air cleaner and it went away. Hope it's a simple fix.

    aggreed  best 10 bucks I spent,, tracks down every squeek there is except the hidden one under passenger seat.

    I would remove the alternator belt and see what happens.  That does not sound like a squeak that would be occuring in an oil coated environment to me.

    Thinking alternator bearing.
    I had a points distributor once that got dry on the points cams and it made similar noise.
    Water pump bearings
    Distributor bearings

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

    I have that same squeak on MM. The other day at Jamies he thought WP. Which it could be (one of them Auto/Reiley's lifetime units) However there aren't any coolant leaks, and if you go back and view Hakan's Mailbox video, the squeak was there in Tomball. Belt tension isn't the answer, butt IDK what else it could be. So when/if you find out be sure & post the answer.
    BTW that Rascall DO sound Purdy.

    I agree.  It sounds like a bearing whine.  My first impression was water pump, but distributor or alternator could also be the culprit.  A water pump can whine and not leak, so that is not aa symptom.

    I also suggest to remove all the belts, start it up, you won't need to run it a few seconds to determine if the noise has gone away.  Then put one belt on, run it, repeat until the noise ocurrs and ... you know the rest.

    65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

    Easy test for belt noise...
    Spray WD-40 on the belts while the engine is running.  9 times out of 10, the squeak goes away.  Only fix I have found that works for more than a few days is a new belt.  You might be surprise how much noise a belt can make even when it appears fine.  I only mention this because it is the test requiring the least possible effort, which is my kind of work.

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

    Won't hurt it to run w/o belt long enough to see if the water pump is the squeaker or not...

    I do have a gear drive and thats the wine sound.  I just have the eratic squeek sound thats annoying.

    Tubo - I agree w/Mach 1 Ron, running the engine w/o the water pump turning for a few seconds won't hurt anything and will eliminate the WP as the source of the noise.
