This will be the fourth time I have reassembled this car. I just hope they got it right this time.

So how "unassembled" is it, and how many trips to the shop did you make while it was there?
Offline
The shop owner did most of the work himself and he had me come buy off the work every time he did something significant. Problem is none of it was ever finished as I would have done it. There was always some detail work left to be done. Stuff as simple as making sure the radius on the edge of the doors looked original. I would not move on to the next item until that was addressed if I was doing it myself. They like to rough everything out and then come back and detail it, and that is the part that worries me. I figure it this way... If it is not correct, the car is already apart, and I would have to do less work to fix it NOW than I would have before, so will just have to wait and see.
Doors are gutted.
Stainless trim and weatherstripping above windows removed
All emblems and exterior trim removed
Stripes are gone
Bumpers are removed.
Not near as bad as some in the past, but still, I do not work as fast as I used to.
And I have a car show I am supposed to have the car in on Saturday. I am pretty sure that is not going to happen. My car is the car featured on the plaques for the show, so they wanted me to have it there. Oh, well...
I may just wind up selling it.

Well I'll be doing the shop thing in the next 2 months. I'm already stressing about it. Found a guy from Painless wiring who installs harnesses out of his own shop. I just want it done right. Everytime I think of how jacked up the wiring in my car is (soon to be was) I lose my mind over who to be more pissed at: The jack wad previous owner who did the pathetic job of hacking and splicing some donor wiring harness and left gobs of electrical tape, tar, and shorts all over the place, and didn't couldn't even get a decent ECU or the "30 years experience inspecting cars w/ the hot rod association of america" jack wad who I paid $300 to do an inspection who failed to notice the insane bundle of wires under the dash. And the fact that the brake cylider was shot, and the clutch line was shot, and that the headers were only connected w/ one bolt, and that the intake wasn't even connected, etc etc.
At least I didn't buy a boat.

Steve..........YOU ARE NOT SELLING YOUR CAR.......now, go wash your mouth out with soap........it'll be fine.
Put it back together, give it a bath and then go put your signature trademark on the nearest street.............

I went to go get the car. Got the WILL BE READY TOMORROW line yet one more time. I did get to see the car with color and clearcoat on it, but not yet cut/buffed. Must say it looked pretty darn good. And having an original hood on it now that actually sits down level with the tops of the fenders makes a huge difference. The Dynacorn hood was total garbage. One thing they could not fix was the big pile of dust they painted last time inside the cowl. I figure there has got to be a way to cover it up with some undercoater. I bet the pile is bigger now than before.
I can live with yet one more day as long as there is hope it is right this time. If they had just taken the time to do it right four years ago, they would have had alot of positive referrals and maybe even done more work for me.
One thing I am making sure of is they are not allowed to reinstall ANYTHING that had to be removed. I will take care of that myself. Nothing worse than having to undo someone else's incompetent assembly work.
Now, who has a good solution for relining the vertical window tracks at the rear of the doors?

Ditto. You can't sell an icon. The MS '66 FB is known the world over. Might as well sell Mom and her apple pie......
Now get back out there and make it right again. I have spoken.

Hmmm, I really thought this was a preamble to an April Fools joke....hope it turns out.
My 65 is 4 months into its paint shop purgatory...I'm starting to get antsy.

Wait, wait, wait...Who'd ya take it TO?

Look at the positive side. You liked the way the car looks and all you need to do is put it back together.
It's just more quality time with your Stang!

I'll give it a shot:
O wonderous God of combustion and all things mechanical, we come to Thee in this precious hour to ask for help for Thy humble and worthy servant Steve, who, as Thy well knows, offers those less knowledgeable than he his precious wisdom of things Ford related in general and Mustangs in particular. We ask that the wonderous coating that will be applied to his steed reflect in some small part the beautful hue of the color spectrum as seen in rainbows that Thy has created in Thy infinite wisdom for our amazement and enjoyment. May this coating be smoother than the quitest lake by night. May it inspire marvel and happiness in all that might gaze upon it. Amen.

Well, I got the ONE MORE DAY thing again today, after hearing it yesterday, and last Friday, and the Friday before. Excuse is PAINT IS NOT DRY ENOUGH TO COLOR SAND. I really am hoping that is a true statement and not the typical excuse.
I think what it really means is WE GOT AN INSURANCE JOB WE CAN KNOCK OUT IN A COUPLE OF DAYS AND ACTUALLY GET PAID FOR IT.
The right side of the car, which was near perfect before, now has larger than life radii on the fender vertical edge and door vertical edge. They had discussed this would be corrected, but it wasn't. I guess I just expect too much from people. Like the ability to think...

Steve - Maybe you should move here to northern Calif. I have 3 outstanding body shops close by, two of which I have used and a thrid that always seems to have some sort of early car in his shop. There are also several good engine shops. I never have to worry about getting a shlock job. But that insurance job condition occurs here too. Much more money in it, so we get pushed to the side.

Unfortunately, this particular shop has proven that continuously having a bunch of expensive classic cars in the shop that all come out bright and shiny does not necessarily mean yours will turn out anywhere close to right.
Offline
Sorry to hear that Steve. But it supports my belief that ANY body shop can do a bad job.

Did you ever see the movie "the money pit"? tom hanks
Classic line in the movie, tom hanks and his girifriend keep asking when the house will be repaired, and the contractors keep saying every day " two weeks" .
