Re: K&N AIR FILTER

use one of these  better flow rate and easier to clean and reuse

http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/filters-and-by-pass-systems/air/amsoil-ea-carbureted-engine-air-filters-and-kits/

they have muti thickness to choose from, I have a 2 inch and hood clears fine.

Re: K&N AIR FILTER

I have an Edelbrock drop base air filter holder on a 351w w/Edel Performer manifold.  The K&N fits with about a half inch to spare.

Re: K&N AIR FILTER

I used the stock 14" round (Hi-Po style) air cleaner base w/a K&N "E-2859" filter (1.5" high) and the Sumitt "SUM-239501" top (looks that same as your picutre only w/chrome ring at top) on my 351W in my 65. There was very little room, maybe 1/4", for the hold-down nut, and the air cleaner top would "kiss" the hood when the engine torqued over.

65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.
