Unless you're installing the supercharged cobra engine, it's a waste of time. The 4.6 cobra motors don't make any more power then a 96-01 ford explorer $200 junkyard 302 motor with a $150 cam. And you have to cut out the shock towers and redesign the entire suspension. If you're looking for a modern motor, the lsx Chevy is a much better option. If you must stay ford then coyote 5.0

Those were all cable driven. You should be able to just use mustang Steve's clutch cable conversion

And the 302 is going to have it all over the 4.6 in terms of low end torque. OHC engines move the powerband upwards as it is, and the 4.6 is only 271 cubes to begin with. This is why the serious guys all supercharge these engines, and why Ford eventually did as well. The Coyote is doing it without forced induction, but there's a lot of electronic trickery employed to get that engine to do what it does. Once you start playing with cam timing electronically, etc. you can get a lot of both worlds, but the price is a lot of added complexity. In an early Mustang, which is a light car, you don't need all that BS. A good street motor that makes 300+HP is going to make that car pretty quick, and 400HP isn't exactly all that hard especially if you build a stroker or a 351. Its a much easier and cheaper route to go than a mod motor swap.

My brother swapped 4.30s into his cobra act it still had no bottom end. I've driven coyotes, they don't have much torque at all either
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
