Connecting the parking brake cables to the 2005-2014 rear discs used in my GT2008-RSM and GT2008-RLG kits is very simple to accomplish. The brake calipers must be mounted as shown aft of the axle. Just weld a receptacle for the cable housing end onto the outer u-bolt, then crimp the end of the lever so it forms a tighter connection on the caliper parking brake lever. I used a large hex nut and ground the exterior of it smooth after welding. In order to remove the outer u-bolt without having to remove the shock and shock plate, place a large c-clamp in front of the axle, clamping the shock plate to the spring. That will hold everything in position while you remove the u-bolt, weld on the receptacle, then replace it. Make sure the tube is welded on so it points straight at the connection on the caliper lever.
This allows use of the stock drum brake cables in their stock configuration. A minimum of 1" cable travel is required to set the parking brakes. Be sure to adjust the cable tension as tight as possible without unseating the levers on the calipers. Actuate a few times, then readjust to be sure everything is seated and as tight as possible without beginning actuation of the parking brakes.

Love it. Simple, but effective!

I just noticed on your pic the ebrake mounting spot on caliper is on top. Mine is on bottom. Do I have mine wrong? 66 fastback.

Ernest, if you are using the GT calipers (NOT COBRA) the ebrake lever and the bleeder must point to the top. Refer to the instructions where it says to mount the caliper marked R on the driver side and the one marked L on the passenger side, bit aft of the axle.
I am emailing you the latest version of the instructions just in case yours "got lost".

I would have angled that cable a bit like in the instructions to avoid pulling the cable across the angle created when applied, but if it works, it works.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
