Found 2 Mustang fast backs

Hi all,
I'm new her in the last several minutes.  After looking around the web for help I landed here. I hope to gain some knowledge on two cars that I found.  Here's the story in quick form and I'll get some photos of the cars posted as soon as I have met the rules of this site for posting photos.
My wife and I are looking to to buy a  house to repair and then sell.  It's our new retirement plan...anyway there's a house we're interested in buying.  It's been empty for 13 years. Today I decided to go get a better look at the house and the property.  As I walked up the driveway there is a free standing garage with no doors on it.  Inside is a 69 Mustang Fastback and a 67 Ford Ranchero.  Both have V8 motors and the drive trains but no glass or interiors.  The Mustang is a 4 speed. I got VERY excited at my find.  I then walked up to the house.  It has another garage under the house. This one has doors however one of the panels in the door is popped out.  I could not see in so I stuck my phone in and just snapped some photos.  To my dismay there is another Fastback in this garage along with a flathead motor and all kinds of stuff.  I'm hoping the parts to the 67 and the Mustang are in here.
SO...I've looked around and don't find much on identifying the cars.  I'm hoping that someone here can give me an idea of what I have and what could be the value.  If I'm lucky enough to get this house I'll have quite the bonus to go with it.
Thanks for the help in advance.
Joe

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

Sounds like a house I'd like to call home. If the house is for sale I'd gain legal entry thru the agent and check the vins. They could be out of the DMV records if they haven't been registered in 13 or so years. The plates would be the easiest way to run the car, if none the 69 should have a visible vin plate at the lower left windshield on the dash. The 67's might need the fenders pulled back to see the vin at the shock tower top edge.

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

You need to pull the numbers from the door data plates and/or VIN numbers stamped into the top of the LH fender apron (there's a notch in the edge of the fender under the edge of the hood where the VIN is stamped.  Those numbers will tell you a lot about the cars.  Type "Mustang VIN decoder" into Google and there will e 100 sites that can decode the numbers for you.

The real issue though, will be getting titles to them if they do not have them.  Abandoned cars are not fun to get titles to; I've been through it.

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

I'll have to go back and see if there are any #'s on the cars.  I was so excited It totally slipped my mind.  I'm sure the car I can look closely at is not a Mach 1 I could never be that lucky.  Your right about abandon cars but there may be a way around it in North Carolina.  I have a # to call for such issues.  I'l definatly go back for the vin #'s and get them if they are still on the cars.

I did find a death cert for the owner.  I'm going to hit the registry of Deeds Monday.

Would the deceased owner's will be a public record?
Even if you did not wind up witj the cars, maybe an heir might be glad to get them.

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

I'll have more info to follow is all I can say at this point.  It would seem to me that anyone that wanted the cars would have claimed them back in 2004.  Monday I'll see who is paying the taxes on the property and go from there.  The house is not listed for sale with a realtor and the cars have no plates.  A vin # might work to track down someone.  I'll do some detective work and see where it takes me.  I really want the house and not so much the cars but would gladly accept them as part of the sale

Here's some pics of the Ranchero...Any ideas on what the engine is from?  It's the best photo I can get of it.

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

The Ranchero has an FE big block  with anywhere from 332 to 428 stock cid.

The white 69 has Mach 1 side stripes. The yellow 69 could be a Mach also, but you'll need to check the data plate on the driver's door below the latch. Body Code 63C is Mach 1. Not all drivers doors are original, confirm the vin on the data plate.

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

I would think every state is different, but I would think buying a house doesn't give you ownership of the cars. May not even be the same estate. A neighbor may have left a car in the garage. Better check on that. Mustangs would be cool ifin they go with the house. I bought a 66 Ranchero in PA. It was in very good shape for what I though was a good price, thinking I couldn't loose. I sold it a year late and had to take a little hit on it. Not a big market on Rancheros. One thing to think about on the car value, is there boxes of parts. Are there window, trim, dash parts, interior, ect. A car with no parts can cost a lot to restore.

The pic of the motor is from the Mustang.  COOL!  Looks like the primered Mustang could be a Mach 1.  I'm going to go back today and see if I can grab the #'s off the cars

As far the who and what of it with this house and the 3 cars it's all pure speculation as to what will happen. The neighbors know nothing more than the house has not been lived in since 2004.  I found a death cert. for the owner from the County web site.  All I can do is do the foot work to find ownership of the whole package. If I can acquire the cars and the property that would be fantastic! One or the other would be good too.

The garage under the house has what appears to be all kinds of car parts.  I hope there are boxes of parts too!  First I need to find an owner and take it from there.
Like I said earlier...I'm going to go to the Registry of Deeds and the Tax Collectors office on Monday AM. to see what I can see! I don't know what the time line might be on obtaining any info but I'll keep you all posted.

Pretty cool if at least one of the Stangs has a big block, but NONE of the front panels shown in the motor pic are Mustang. They match the Ranchero.

As you said, it's pure speculation. Good luck.

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

I agree with rpm.  That pic of the FE big block is in the Ranchero, not the Mustang.  Unless someone grafted the Ranchero front to a Mustang!
The primer 69 Mustang does not appear to have big block front springs on it. The white one does have MACH I stripes.

Until you get the 11 digit VIN off the car, you won't know.  Don't trust door tags.  Get the number off the car body.

This is a fun guessing game until we know the facts!

I am no horticulturist, but is that poison ivy next to that rear wheel?

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

DMV records by license plate go out of their system 2 years after the registration lapses here in DE.  I don't know if they would give out information based on a VIN, I kind of doubt it due to privacy laws.

If you buy the house though, the contents are likely yours once you take title, unless one or more of those vehicles was expressly willed to someone the cars would follow the house.  But, I don't know about limitations of time to claim either.  If the owner dies in 2004 its now been 12 years.  Property rights are often null and void unless a claim in made within 7 years.  When in doubt, consult with an estate attorney.  You might have to pay him $200 to meet, but the peace of mind and reassurance will be well worth it.

I know this sounds bad, but if I were you I'd try and buy the house first and then just treat the cars as abandoned and go through the channels to get titles to them.  Its less headache than tracking down someone who probably doesn't even realize they could potentially own the cars, then its a question of what kind of person you're dealing with.  They could be very cool and just sign them over, or they could be crazy and think the cars are worth $50,000.  In DE anyway, when you get a title to an abandoned car it flies pretty much under the radar.  Someone would have to be combing the public record notices in the paper to find it.

EXACTLY! I'm working on buying the house first  but my love for cars and trying to save them  is somehow getting in the way.  I think you're right though...buy the house and say nothing about the cars and tak it from there.

In 1989 it cost $1189.00 new. Great chipper. If it is the model 528 (8hp) it was $1429.00 new. That looks pretty clean.

Re: Found 2 Mustang fast backs

I have that exact same wood chipper, although not as nice condition, and it is a beast! I think I paid $200 for it on Craigslist 8 years ago. It is still going strong. Sorry it did not come with a cool Mustang.
