66 Automatic transmission. At the very top of the shifter lever, there is a white plastic piece that is attached to the end of the cable. The button on the side of the shifter handle moves that plastic piece causing it to pivot and pull up on the cable.
I have a shifter that the plastic piece broke in half. I do not know what it looks like (in one piece) nor do I know what it is called. I have never had one come apart before. I have searched my usual sources to no avail.
Has anyone ever had any experience replacing that part or know where to get one? You would think they would make them to last more than 50 years!!!

NPD sells the A/T shift lever cable #7D246-1. It comes complete with the white plastic piece I believe you're referring to.

on my stock 66 it looks different. the cable is attached to a steel piece with a roller that is pushed by the button. the plastic piece acts as a guide with a cam that rides up and down with the cable.

That plastic piece is not the one I need. I need the one that is cam-shaped.

I found an image of the shift lever online. Is the part you need the one I circled in blue? If so, you may have to order a replacement lever. I couldn't find just that part although it may come as part of a rebuild kit.

According to the Ford shop manual, that plastic piece does not have its own part number. It is part of the shifter handle assembly. I did some parts searching and found nothing. Looks like your choices are to buy a repro handle with the plastic ramp and new cable for $90, or find a used shifter handle, or whittle a new plastic ramp out of UHMWPE.
