Just a quick update on Ol Paint. Dropped the trunk floor into car fit like a glove.
Very pleased with the fit at the wheel house. Just a few clamps and screws and the floor
looked really great. Whew fellas been sweating this part. Need to do some scribing to trim off
excess metal then I,m ready to prime and weld into car.

Now is a good time to consider a mini-tub... Looking good all around. :-)

Glen,
You make a great suggestion, but mini tubs and foot wide tires just ain't for me.
With today's tire tech I should be quite happy with rubber inside the std wheel opening.
Who knows some day when I'm gone next owner might want a stock ride.
now some nice rims and tires are definitely in the future.
Well at this point waaay in the future.
Thanks for lookin in I,m always open to suggestions.

PS photos from bash were awesome Some Day

I understand completely. I felt the same way 20 years ago but here I am “entertaining” the thought. I think maybe 2-3" inboard would be nice right now but coupes and CV don’t work well with that like a FB does on 65-66 cars.
Project is looking great with nice progress for sure. Good Luck and Drive On.

Yuuuuup, a 14 year old piece of junk. That's the way people were talking about them back then. People who wern't Mustang fans would laugh at them because of all the noise and rough ride. At that time I was a member of the Southern AZ Mustang club. The cars in that club were mostly concourse with a few daily drivers. The DD's weren't appreciated and were pretty cheap to buy. I had three given to me and paid $400 for another. Ended up paying a guy to take them away when we moved here in 83. Amazing what a little time will do to make a classic. But I knew it would. Even then, with all that it, was still a cult car that has now turned into an icon. How many times have you heard "I used to have one of those"?

Hudgin you are 100 % correct.
But it was my 5th Mustang for under $200.00 bucks.
Now we cant buy a decent piece of chrome for that kind of money.
Drove it fours years, always worked on it myself.
All of my friends at the time were the same.
What a different time.

PS I think I'm the only one still wrenching on Stangs

Some progress on trunk floor.
Got left side welded in.
Started to weld across center section.
Taking it slow. (really glaciers move faster than my progress)
Will finish plug welds to frame rails this weekend.

Slow and steady is the best way. Will take longer to go back and fix a mis-measurement and such. I can't tell from the pic but I don't see the hole in the sheet metal for the fuel sending unit wire. If not easier to knock one in now while you have the leg room. Looking good.

No holes.
I kept all of the original floor pieces.
So locating will be no problem.
I have a set of knock out dies so the hole will crisp
when punched. Also did you check out my micro tubs.
No not really. It was 55 and raining today so still winter in Louisiana.
Trunk floor still qualifies as my winter project.
Some of my plug welds are not that pretty, kinda got out of my focal range.
Young guys with great eyesight don't have this problem.
I'm gonna keep plugging away.
Want me some rotisserie pony.
Thanks for looking in on Ol' Paint

Just a quick update
Thought I would finish welding the trunk floor today.
Well Mr Murphy got in and took over my welder.
Refused to feed wire properly. Finally traced the problem to a bad
Liner, It is the original and had had a ton of wire run through it.
Will pick one up this week.
So I wanted to make some progress.
Rooted around and found the hinge pin kits for doors.
Removed rt side door and rebuilt both hinges.
Man the door closes with just the touch of my finger.
little things add up to a complete project.

Welder fixed, local Gas & supply store had correct size liner was able to get one extra liner.
All for $10 bucks and change. Ok you know the WIWAI syndrome had left side door off to fix hinges.
Well the tin ants ate up bottom front corner( sure would like some vendor to step up and sell this as a patch panel) cut out cancer and started the reconstruction process. Now about half way done. There is never a lack of fun things to repair on our cars

Purchased a new welding set up.
Hobart Handler 190 with optional spool gun.
This is a much better welder than my Harbor Freight gift from Christmas past welder.
Hopeful this is my last welder purchase. Also hopeful for better and more consistent welds.
