so im having an aod swap done from a performance shop..i got a call yesterday telling me one header has to be removed to get the aod in so labor is gonna be more smh.. im having them do it because unfortunetly its something I cant do in my driveway or im not in any condition to do.. anyway I have long tube headers in there the car already came with them I didn't install them.. the shop said I might have to buy new headers so the trans fits... any of you run into this problem with the swap?...what headers did you end up going with? the car now has a c4 in it...I would think the bell housing other than being connected to the trans it self on the aod is pretty close to the same dimentions of the c4 am I wrong?

Well..... I don't believe you're going to find a set of longtube headers that will be a direct bolt in, as the AOD is bigger than the C4. You may want to consider a set of Heddman or JBA shorty headers, or a pair of the repop "hipo" cast iron manifolds.
There's a little search box on the forum here. Type in "AOD and headers" (be sure to use the word "and" )and you will see prior posts on this topic. I'm not being a wise guy (this time). Just trying to be helpful.

Frankly I'm surprised they only have to remove one to get the trans in.
Honestly, I'd avoid long tubes and just go with shorties. Long tubes are a PITA to install and live with because they hang so low. If the car's lowered, and even if its not, you have to worry they'll scrape on every speed bump, etc.
The other big problem I have with long tubes is they have a huge flat spot in the midrange, which is where street cars spend 90% of their driving time. Long tubes make more peak power, but peak power doesn't mean much on the street. I'd gladly trade 15 peak HP for 5lbs/ft from 2,500-4,500 RPM.
I run JBA shorties, which fit well, except for where I had to modify them to fit around my Borgeson steering box. I believe they also make a set of long tubes if you're dead set. I used to run them on everything years ago, but got tired of all the problems and switched to shorties on most everything.

RPM just put an AOD in .... he persuaded his longtubes to fit.
FPA makes the stuff with the most chance of fitting, pricey tho.
I'm tired of dragging on everything, so I'm using shorties.

Vic, unless you have stainless steel headers, you/they should be able to spread the collectors outward to create the needed room. I did it by lying on my back under the car, and pushing the collector out with my foot.

AKA "the macho man modification" ......BFH and long pry bar workz too.
I LOVE the long tube headers because.......they sound like you got headers, the others....not so much!
Worth the effort IMHO

My Tri-Y headers pass side I had to be cut in two places and re-angled/rewelded outward to clear the AOD. The driver side had to be shortened so that the connector flange fit between the trans pan and trans housing, sorry can't post pics from where I am now ( Sullivan MO ).
I would get cast iron HI-PO manifolds If I had to do it again, easier to connect them to the exhaust pipes.

I went to the shop today and they had the driver side out..they for sure will remove the passanger as well as it was stiff in there... im hoping we got it solved im gonna go cheapy way and they are gonna cut and reweld so everthing is clear

we agreed to cut and reweld them so they clear...well I hope any way.. I heard people bend and spread them but don't know if these guys will even try now that I talked to them about cutting

.
Oh it definitely sounds like its got headers. Many, many comments on how good it sounds. Though, its bark at this point is much worse than its bite I'm afraid. The 347 will eventually solve that though.
